Come out and celebrate groundbreaking to start construction on the new terminal!

City of Miami PRESS RELEASE:
New Miami Regional Airport Terminal Opens Doors to the Community

(MIAMI, OK.) One of only three projects awarded in Oklahoma, a new $3.1 million terminal will be built at the Miami Regional Airport to replace the old terminal built in the ‘70s. The new terminal is expected to take a year to build and be completed in 2025.

The Miami City Council unanimously approved the construction contract and funding of $1.2 million for the project at Monday’s Council meeting. The City of Miami will fund $1.2 million, the State of Oklahoma will fund $1 million through a grant from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace & Aeronautics in a dollar-for-dollar match, and federal funding from two Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant sources will fund the remainder. The FAA funding is a 90 percent to 10 percent match by the City of Miami.

The project was designed by Garver, LLC, an engineering firm that specializes in aviation design. Crossland Construction will be building the terminal. The City of Miami negotiated with Crossland to use in-house crews to complete earthwork and storm sewer work for a cost reduction of $125,495.

“The community is getting a $3.1 million building for approximately $1.1 to $1.2 million,” Garver Engineer Matthew Ranck said, “It’s really a unique opportunity. Five communities were given this opportunity and only three made it to the finish line.”
Ranck said this state initiative is not a common opportunity and only three Oklahoma communities; Miami, Elk City and Mid America Industrial Park were awarded the grant funding.

“It’s getting a $3 million dollar terminal for 30 percent of the cost,” Ranck said.

A Ceremonial Groundbreaking is scheduled at 1 p.m. on April 19 at the Miami Regional Airport. Lt Governor Matt Pinnell and the Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics Executive Director Grayson Ardies and local dignitaries are expected to speak. The public is invited to attend.

The new terminal is expected to better serve large business, industry, and private pilots, draw more prospective industry to Miami, see more flights in and out, and in turn boost Miami’s opportunity for economic growth and expansion.

“Thanks to the generous support from the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace & Aeronautics, the new terminal at Miami Regional Airport not only enhances our infrastructure, but propels Miami forward, connecting our community with endless opportunities,” Miami Mayor Bless Parker said.
