Highway 140 between El Portal and Midpines is closed due to a rock slide! Follow the Yosemite Basecamp for up today conditions!

Yosemite’s Road Conditions at 8am! Notably El Portal Road is open inside of the park, but there is a rock slide outside of the park between El Portal, CA and Midpines, CA on Hwy 140 that makes the park inaccessible from Mariposa, CA.

Remember that road conditions change quickly, and tire chains/cables are required in your vehicle when entering a chain controlled area regardless of current conditions.

❄️Requirement 0 (R-0): Chains are not required on your tires at this time.
❄️Requirement 1 (R-1): Chains are required on all vehicles except vehicles with snow tires.
❄️Requirement 2 (R2): Chains or cables are required on all vehicles except four-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires.
❄️Requirement 3 (R3): Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles, no exceptions.
The Yosemite Basecamp in downtown Groveland is open from 8-6pm for travel information, tire chains, new and used gear and more!

We still talk about the impacts of the shutdowns, so the thought of four years of neglect is deeply troubling. Yosemite isn’t just a park—it’s a living, breathing ecosystem - home to cultural practices, endangered species and those who have dedicated their lives to protecting it. The loss of experienced staff, delayed protections, interruptions to vital scientific research and lack of leadership could cause damage that takes decades to undo. This is all without mention of the lasting damage to our local economy that is still healing from fire, pandemic, closures and deteriorating infrastructure. We owe it to future generations to safeguard Yosemite today!

We are asking, regardless of who you voted for, to contact your representative to let them know how valuable Yosemite is to you, your family and your community.

Senators warn of chaos and closures at National Parks following cuts and rescinded job offers to National Park Service employees.
