It took crews nearly an hour and two cranes to move the 30,000-pound animal a quarter mile up the beach and out of the water.

The whale report is: S***m whale, about 40 ft long and about 30,000 pounds. The excavator pulled it off property past Doral. The plan is to bury it at the beach.. Marine biologists are doing a beach autopsy. The whale had some massive shark bites on both sides of its body.

2pm update: Beach Club staff said they are bringing in heavy equipment to tow it West to the beach club. There have been people here studying it.

Beach club notes Feb 7 2024
After owning at the Beach Club for a few years, these are a few things we have learned.
- [ ] Best beach view for a beer and beach food The Pink Pony, blacken and coconut shrimp are great.
- [ ] We like King Neptune’s (all things seafood), of course Lamberts (enough leftovers for lunch the next day).
- [ ] Cobolt just pass the bridge between Orange Beach and Perdido Key. It’s actually under it.
- [ ] Coast Restaurant at the Beach Club is as good as you will find in the area, it’s a little on the pricey side but you don’t have to leave the property. The Hideaway is at the front of the property, bar/beach food, pizza great staff. Food trucks are set up and serving between Memorial day and Labor day. For us the food is hit or miss there.
- [ ] Jesse’s on the bay is a couple of miles east of the beach club, upscale, great views & good food. Reservations 251 965 3827 ext2
- [ ] Tin Top on Bonsecur north of Gulf Shores.
- [ ] Sassy Bass and Chophouse just east of the Beach Club, behind the pizza place it is inside and great.
- [ ] We also pick up Moe’s BBQ family pack in Foley on the way in and you can have it a couple of meals. Moe’s also has a location in Orange Beach. Jim & Nicks is another option.
- [ ] A local grocery Rouses 1545 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores, Alabama 36542 has some great seafood and custom local food. Sara’s Homemade for chicken salad and pot pies is in the same complex toward the Beach Club.
- [ ] Fort Morgan State Park is great and you may learn some history. Sometimes they do ghost tours, so be sure to check their website for times.
- [ ] The Blue Angels home base is in Pensacola about 40 miles from Gulf Shores and they practice on Wednesdays most of the summer. You can also tour the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola.
- [ ] Take the ferry to Dolphin Island. Have lunch at Pirates Grill it’s in a 1950’s Country Club building or drive up to the USS Alabama!
- [ ] For church we like Shell Banks Baptist Church a couple of miles East of the Beach Cub next to the Ft Morgan fire department.
