It's ON! Time to push Bill 5594!! To prohibit the use and sale of Second Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides in CT. Please start spreading the Bill Number 5594 and re-write your legislators! as well as each member of the CT Environmental Committee. Pinned sample letter at top of APCH page.

It couldn't come at a better time, as I have packaged up 9 more specimens to be delivered to UCONN for the Anticoagulant Rodenticide Panels to be determined. To date, 30 submitted, and out of those 30, 25 have tested POSITIVE for one, two, and three of the ingredients of SGARS. Let's get this out of our State.

For more than 50 years, from the period after the Spanish-American War to World War II, Plum Island’s Fort Terry helped defend the East Coast and train soldiers. Today its core buildings, gun batteries, and parade ground are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the fort holds an important place in our military history as the best example of its type of seacoast defense post and one of six “Defenses of First Importance” on the East Coast. APCH IS CLOSED FOR TOURS AND ONSITE EVENTS

This is a face of HPAI, or the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. This young Great horned owl was spotted having a seizure up in a tree and then fell to the ground. Upon admission, the owl was in a continuous seizing episode and the poor baby died in my arms. The bird was sent out for testing, and resulted POSITIVE for HPAI. It is one of five suspects submitted for this test to come back so far. This virus is here and the Fall migration of birds has spread it across our State. Please be aware that APCH is CLOSED again for tours or any onsite events for the safety of our resident and Ambassador Birds. We can not take additional risks. We are also only accepting patients in our specialty. That includes all Birds of prey, Vultures, and Corvids. These birds are all very susceptible to this virus and will not survive it if they have it. There is no cure. Our Bio-Security measure are back in place and there will be no exceptions to our admissions. We are remaining on high alert and with caution. Please be careful if you find deceased birds of any kind and wear PPE if you are handling carcasses. Triple bag and dispose of the carcasses so no predator eats them and the virus is not spread via consumption.

Every year before winter, slow-no-wake buoys are removed from the Connecticut River. Please keep in mind, even though the buoys are gone the slow-no-wake zones are still in effect.
