In Hawaiian, “Puohokamoa” is rich with significance. Some say it reflects the echoes of cascading water, reminiscent of drumbeats or jungle fowl calls. Others believe it tells stories of ancient Hawaiian traditions and the natural life that thrives in this sacred place.
🌊 From Haleakalā to the Ocean

Meet Emily-🌞 she joined Rappel Maui in December 2016, shortly after moving to the island. With a background in mountaineering and climbing, she was excited to find a job that combined working outdoors, meeting people, and learning new skills. Discovering she could rappel down waterfalls was a dream come true!
Emily’s favorite part of the job is teaching guests new skills and helping them achieve something they never thought possible, all in one of the most stunning locations on earth. She has guided guests of all ages from keiki to 80 - and advises guests to trust their guides, trust the equipment, and relax. According to Emily, “If my mom, who’s terrified of heights, can do it, so can you!”🙌
When she’s not guiding, Emily spends her time with her two little adventurers: her 4-year-old daughter and 1.5-year-old son. As a family, they love hiking, beach days, and surfing. Recently, Emily has been channeling her inner Chip and Joanna Gaines while remodeling their fixer-upper home, proving that life is an adventure both on and off the cliffs!

Meet Taylor 🌿🧗♀️
When you think of someone who embodies the adventurous spirit of Maui, Taylor immediately comes to mind. When she first moved to the island, she knew she wanted to spend every moment outdoors, but here's the twist—she was new to rope sports and afraid of heights.
Fast forward to today, Taylor has conquered her fears and turned them into her strengths. Working with Rappel Maui not only gave her the chance to master new skills but also the joy of teaching others, all while surrounded by Maui’s breathtaking beauty.
Now based in Atlanta, Taylor still carries Maui in her heart. The moment she steps off the plane, she heads straight to the beach, dreams of sunsets at Ho‘okipa, and dinners in Pā‘ia. That’s the kind of island love you never shake.
Taylor’s courage, warmth, and love for adventure make her an irreplaceable part of the Rappel Maui ‘ohana. She’s proof that you can overcome anything—and look amazing doing it. 💪🌺

If you want to see and do it all, you haven’t fulfilled your mission until you’ve rappelled down a secret waterfall in an off-the-beaten-path rainforest valley on the also much-touted Road to Hana. Rappelling is part of the sport of canyoneering, and is the method by which mere mortals can travel terrain that would be otherwise very difficult or impossible to safely cross or descend. Where do these feats happen? In a magical, acres-wide tropical garden featuring some of Hawaii’s most unique and revered botanical and wildlife that’s fed by the island’s natural stream flow. You ride to this secluded, private activity site in the comfort of a 15-passenger van driven by guides knowledgeable about the island’s history and customs.
