Discovery/Renew Family Resource Projects Discovery/Renew FRP's provide a
continuum of family preservation and
support services for families Tammany, St. John/St. James.

Discovery and Renew are academic programs under the Department of Health and Human Sciences, with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences of Southeastern Louisiana University. The projects are two of nine centers affiliated with the Louisiana Family Resource Centers Network, an organization with members all across the state. Discovery was established in 1999 and Renew was established on Novembe

r 12, 2009. Our MISSION is to strive to ensure the safety and well-being of children in a permanent home. The Family Resource Projects provide a continuum of family preservation and support services for families receiving services through the Department of Children and Family Services. Services may be provided through group-based education, individualized curricula, or Family Skills Building training for specific parenting needs, which are not addressed through another curriculum. Services are available to families whose children are in Foster Care or placed with relatives, or families who have their children but still have risk factors. Renew is located in Hammond and is the sole provider for Region 3, which includes the parishes of: St. Helena, Tangipahoa, Washington, East Feliciana, and West Feliciana. Discovery is located in Denham Springs and is the sole provider for Region 2, which includes the parishes of: Ascension, East Baton Rouge, Iberville/West Baton Rouge, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, and St. For more information, please see our website: www.southeastern.edu/discovery-renew

During this training, you will learn about the unique physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional growth milestones children ages 6-12 experience.

This session will also focus on mental illness which often is not discovered until the child is in school. Warning signs of various disorders will be discussed, such as Anxiety Disorders, ASD, Depression, Eating Disorders, PTSD, and more.

You will also learn how to help school-age children contend with common challenges such as bullying, peer pressure, and lack of self-esteem.

The course aims to provide the knowledge necessary to define human trafficking and its prevalence. Risk factors are given to help participants identify and assess victims of human trafficking as well as services available to victims.

The Holiday of Lights will transform into a Walk-Thru Experience December 20 & 21, 27 & 28 as well as January 3 & 4, 2025 from 6-9 p.m. The Drive-Thru Experience on Koop Drive has also been extended until January 4, from 6-9 p.m.

Pictures with Santa, kids rides, laser displays and snow will NOT be available at the walk-thru and will return for the December 2025 event. Areas available to walk-thru are along Koop Drive and Santa's Yuletide Forest by the Tammany Trace Trailhead.
