Respect the Peace of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek: Limit Loud Music

The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek is known for its breathtaking natural beauty and serene mountain landscape, attracting trekkers from around the world seeking both adventure and a peaceful connection with nature. To preserve this unique atmosphere, trekkers are kindly asked to avoid playing loud music along the trail.

Many come to experience the calm of the Himalayas, appreciating the natural sounds of the environment – from the wind brushing the mountain peaks to the songs of local birds and the flow of rivers below. Loud music disrupts not only this peaceful experience but can also disturb wildlife and take away from the sense of solitude and reverence that draws people to these mountains.

The Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) has started actively monitoring noise levels along popular trekking routes, including ABC. ACAP check posts are stationed to enforce this guideline, and they have begun collecting music devices that are in violation of these regulations. These efforts help ensure that everyone, from solo trekkers to larger groups, can enjoy the trek without unnecessary disturbance.

We ask for your cooperation in maintaining this tranquil environment. By limiting noise and respecting the shared nature of the trail, you’re helping preserve the unique, reflective, and harmonious experience of trekking in the Annapurnas.

Bhaktapur

Have you heard of yoghurt that is so thick that you need a knife to carve out some to just eat it? This yoghurt named juju dhau (King of Yogurt) is authentic to the ancient city-state of Bhadgaon (present-day Bhaktapur). You will not find such yoghurt in this modern age, with the knife carving thing might just be folklore; nonetheless, you will definitely love its taste!
Bhaktapur, the cultural capital of Nepal, is famous for preserving its medieval art and architecture, rich culture, temples and its vintage alleys. Bhaktapur Durbar Square, UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, is the centre of attraction in Bhaktapur that includes the magnificent 55 Window Palace (built by King Bhupatindra Malla), Golden Gate, Nyatapole Temple, Statue of Bhupatindra Malla and other temples. Do not miss a visit to Siddha Pokhari (a historical pond) before you enter the Durbar Square area. The vibe around its premises is truly refreshing. Pottery Square of Bhaktapur is a must-go place in Bhaktapur. One must try the experience of creating anything out of clay by yourself at Pottery Square. Dattatreya Square is another attraction in Bhaktapur carrying historical and cultural importance to the locals. You can also make plans to visit ChanguNarayan Temple, Nagarkot, Sangha and Pilot Baba Ashram if you have any spare time to kill after you visit Bhaktapur.

Manakamana

A Nepali who has not made a bhakal with Goddess Manakamana is probably a rare find! Bhakal is an act of asking God for a wish and visiting a holy shrine if that particular wish is granted. Manakamana, an incarnation of Parvati, is derived from two words, “mana” meaning heart and “kamana” meaning wish, and thus a bhakal with Goddess Manakamana is held dear. A cable car that operates here was the first one to launch in Nepal 20 years ago and many Nepalis have fond memories associated with visiting the temple as their first cable car ride experience.

BARDIYA NATIONAL PARK

Ride through the silent jungle catching wildlife by surprise in the largest national park of Nepal in Bardiya or take nature walk under the guidance of expert naturalists with years of experience.
Combine it with white-water rafting in the longest river of Nepal, Karnali, where you could even spot dolphins or gharial on a lucky day. And meet the charming Rana Tharu and Dangora people of southern Nepal to know more about their culture.

A trip to Bardiya is certain to stay in your memory as one of the most enduring experiences in Nepal. These jungles in the south-western parts of Nepal are an hour’s flight away with an incredible variety of mammals, reptiles and birds.
Bardiya National Park is also one of the most undisturbed protected areas in the Terai and is home to the endangered Royal Bengal tiger and Nepal's famous one-horned rhinoceros. The park located in the far western district of Bardiya, is bordered by River Karnali in the west, the Churia range in the north, while the River Babai flows right through.

The varied geographical factors together with the cover of Sal, Savannah forests and grasslands render this region ideal as wild animal habitat. The park hosts 30 different mammals, more than 250 species of birds, and several varieties of reptiles and water animals.
Some of the other animals found here are elephant, swamp deer, blackbuck, gharial crocodile and marsh-mugger crocodile. The exotic Gangetic dolphin is also sometimes seen in River Karnali. Birds include endangered varieties of Bengal florican, lesser florican, silver-eared mesia and sarus crane.

The park offers opportunity of fishing at River Karnali and River Babai. The best time to visit is autumn, winter and early summer when the weather is warm and dry. Bardiya can be reached by road via Nepalgunj or by flight to Nepalgunj or Surkhet from where the park can be driven to.
Several safari lodges in Bardiya provide excellent accommodation and facilities for guests to enjoy wildlife activities. The nearest cities from here are Nepalgunj and Mahendranagar. Park headquarters Thakurdwara is approximately an hour's drive away from the Nepalgunj-Surkhet road.

The Tilicho Lake, situated close to 5000 meters from the sea level, trek features thrilling trails, the beautiful valley of Manang, exhilarating off-road experience, and the stunning Himalayas accompanying the trekkers throughout their journey. Tilicho Lake also was also the site of one of the highest altitude scuba dives in 2000. One can also camp on the bank of the lake, taking in views of the majestic Himalayas.
