Today was an interesting day. For the past two weeks Dean and I have been watching a doe who is pregnant. It seems every year fawns are born on our property and we know our guests are enjoying them too.

We had about an acre or two of land in the back of our house that needed to be brush hogged. We're putting in a hot tub this fall and I want our Airbnb guests to be able to see the wildlife in our back yard from the hot tub.

So, I let our brush hog guy know yesterday and again this morning to be sure to watch for fawns that might have been born over night. Dean and I saw the pregnant Doe just yesterday.

Our brush hog guy brought a buddy along with him. And the buddy road shotgun on the front of the scoop in front of the tractor. I was concerned he would fall off in front of the tractor and get ran over. But that didn't happen.

I watched them from the back porch, I could hear them hollering at each other. Later, they told me they could see where the deer had been bedding down. So, the shotgun guy, he would jump off, look around and then jump back on the tractor.

Then, I heard them hollering very loudly and saw him jump off the tractor, next thing I saw was a tiny fawn in his arms and him running with it to get it out of harms way. He took it to the edge of the property.

I grabbed my phone, shoes, and off I went. To see if the fawn had been hurt.

It had not. He said when he picked "him" up he was wet and cried out. But it was alive and unharmed.

I read on the Internet to leave it be. Mom would be back regardless of human scent. And I read that a Doe will have twins in different locations too to protect them.

I checked on it a few times during the day. (Walked right up on a large copperhead that had been in the high grass; it was 50 feet away from the fawn). I backed off slowly, it's tongue flicking gave me a scare.

The last time I checked on the fawn, before Dean got home, it wasn't moving. I thought maybe the fawn was dead so I took a branch with leaves and rubbed its face. Its nose twitched. I read they are still and quiet to not attract prey. Interesting how "instinct" had already began on the first day of its life. It didn't hardly move at all.

When Dean got home from work, we walked down the back yard to see it. It was gone. Unless someone or something got it, I believe its mom came back for him.

Moms do that.

When a great depression (or worse) happens, what will really matter is food, water, and shelter.

Seriously, not knowing how to put up water and purify it, how to garden/grow your own food, and how to can, preserve, and store food will be a determent to many people.

Having a group of like minded friends and family members to share a shelter with to save on the cost of living, this too will be all that matters should hard times come.

I know we're not taught these things in school, but Dean and I teach these things when you come to stay with us while on vacation.

I made some cookies for one of our guests and his girlfriend. Yummy! He was a Marine and I thought how sweet it would be to serve him "Ranger" cookies. He loved it and took the cookies on their hiking trip near the Buffalo National River.

I was going through some of our reviews and this one was truly a blessing to me.

Dean and I had a guest stay with us that left us this note in the Rooftop Garden Villa Suite's kitchen, on the cupboard door.

She also left this review on Airbnb below:

If you are looking at this website...looking for a place to stay where it's more like home, where the owners treat you like a person and not a key holder, where you can relax and wind down when you travel...you already know what's important to you.

But there's one thing that gets too quickly ignored in the quality of the 'must haves': the quality in the people hosting. Angela and Dean *without exception* are the hosts you are looking for.

This is my second visit in the last 6 months.They did such a great job this fall I had to return this time.

This trip, however, was a nightmare everywhere outside the Villa: car rental issues, unexpected and unplanned cost...you name it. But Angela found me resources, put me in touch with great local people to help me and supported me.

Both she and Dean stepped up to help, way far and beyond what I could have ever hoped. I was again treated like a family friend. And nothing beats integrity and trust in the people you deal with.

Dean and I have found as we get older and plan for retirement, we want to ease into an optimal quality of life using what is known as "agri-tourism."

And after 34 years of marriage, you have to spice it up a little every now and then.

Our latest "Farmstay Family" Charles, Marilyng, and Ilaria flew in from Havana Cuba during Christmas break.

They stayed with us a couple of nights as Charles had stayed with us before.

We had them down for dinner and found that Ilaria's birthday is the same day and year as my granddaughter Sophia. That was an exciting discovery!

It's personal information like this shared between friends that ends up making us "family".

Charles left Dean and I a personal note on our website's contact page.

It is letters like this that let Dean and I know we are exactly where God wants us to be. We love what we do and why we do it!

The letter reads:

Hello Angela,

I just wanted to drop you and Dean a note to say thank you very much for your hospitality during our recent stay at your lovely home.

I was thrilled to see you both again and equally happy that you had a chance to meet Marilyng and Ilaria. They both asked me to express their gratitude for such a wonderful stay.

The friendship, food and comfort that you provided us was exceptional and I so appreciate having come to know you both since arriving in Arkansas.

Thanks again and I hope to see you both again very soon.

Please remind Dean to let me know whenever he needs help with anything on the farm including general construction, maintenance, the garden and chickens etc.. I would be happy to come over and lend a hand whenever you have some projects to work on.

It's the last month of the year and I'm already thinking about next year's visitors whether they are family, friends, guests, or customers. Dean and I pinched our pennies and graveled our driveway (finally). I know all y'all will appreciate that! No more driving on our pasture. Here's a 20 second clip of just the parking area in front of the garage. Exactly where "you" will park. And the circle drive is finished too for the RV'ers who will stay here next year. Thank you Darren Jackson, Donnie Honeycutt, and Steven Hall! We are blessed to have such a fantastic community.

Good news! For all you RV'ers that want to come to the Ozarks, we are putting in our very first RV gravel pad here at PHOTO. Gravel is being delivered on Monday. The RV hookup has water and electricity. A dump station for black water is available on site too. Fall will be here before you know it and the weather will be wonderful for hiking. And if you're interested, our Farmstay Family business can teach you about self-sufficiency too. Come see us folks. BTW, if you don't have an RV but your friends do, and you want privacy, you can stay in "The Rooftop Garden Suite".

We've had an abundance of tomatoes and not a lot of time (at times) to get to all the produce coming off from the garden. We just wash off the tomatoes, take off the stems, put in freezer bags, and freeze. When we are ready for them, we just put them in the sink in hot water while they are still frozen. The peelings come off easily. We can use them in any recipe! Just cut them up while frozen. Easy Peezy!

When you visit the Ozarks and us here at Prominence, you've got to visit Triple Falls also known as Twin Falls. It's approximately 25-30 minutes from our homestead. As you can see it's breathtaking. This picture was taken when Angela was recording her album Angela Grace EP.

We like to call our guests our extended family. This is Holly Ann. While she stayed with us in our vacation rental upstairs, she and I cut up some fresh organic cucumbers from our garden and canned Bread and Butter pickles. I also showed her how to make Homemade Bread the easy way using a bread machine and fresh herbs from the herb garden. It was so much fun!
