Martini Bar - Celebrity Cruises
Hello everyone and welcome to Thirsty Thursdays post, where we will be posting about anything related to drinks, drink plans, specific bars or any other topics related to your favorite beverages.
Today we start off with a generic discussion of drink plans on cruises since many of the questions we receive from our customers are about these plans.
For many of the most-used cruise-lines, only basic beverages are provided as part of the cruise fare. Basic beverages would be things like glasses of water, iced-tea, and lemonade for all meals, along with hot tea and brewed coffees. At breakfast, you can also get a variety of juices as well.
Other than those examples, you will need to pay for other beverages. This includes things like bottled waters, soda, any drinks from the bars (with or without alcohol), specialty coffees, and on some cruises, even milkshakes. Prices for these types of drinks start around $2.50 for bottled water, $3 for sodas, beer around $8-$10, wine $10-$12 and cocktails from $10-$15.
Most cruise lines have at least 3 options for the drink packages, one that is non-alcohol based, one for basic alcohol beverage and one for higher-tier alcohol-based drinks (think top-shelf options).
One important think to remember about these is that if one passenger wants a drink plan, the other passenger in the same cabin must also take the same drink plan (unless they are underage in which case they have to get the non-alcohol package).
The package pricing for these plans differs greatly between cruise companies. Some bundle them into add-on packages that combine other services like Wi-fi and these are normally the best price deals. Other cruise lines only sell them ala-carte and the prices can range from around $55 - $110 per person, per day.
One cruise line, Virgin Voyages, let's you just setup a bar-tab for your cabin and they often provide some base amount of bar-tab when they offer special sales/promotions.
