Yes, our grandfathers did hunt, shoot, eat, and sometimes stuff critters, some of which still sit on the mantle of our fireplace.
But they didn't shoot this juvenile Snowy Owl which never matured but will always be sitting there staring at you as you are staring into the fire. A farmer shot him off the ridge of his barn , wounding but not killing it, then brought it to our great grand Dr. Drury in Natural Bridge, in hopes it could be saved. It died looking reproachfully at Dr. Drury, with its head cocked just this way. We will never live it down.
