Blackford Greenway Inc. 1.94 mile, 10 foot wide asphalt multi-use path connecting Needler's/Pizza King Plaza and Blackford High School, through beautiful country side.

1.94 mile, 10 foot wide asphalt multi-use path connecting Needler's and Pizza King Plaza and Blackford High School. Project funding is 80% Federal Funds and 20% local funds. Beginning at the Needler's Plaza located at N Walnut Street and CR 100 N and travel west to N Wabash St. The path will turn north through scenic farmland, through a breathtaking forest, crossing CR 200 N, and continue north an

d then east to tie into an existing parking area at Blackford High School. Project includes completion of the Federally required National Environment Policy Act (NEPA) environmental document, land acquisition, design and construction, and construction inspection. Environmental work and preliminary engineering are underway! The Blackford County Trail will be the first multi-use path in an eventual community-wide, multi-modal system and will provide an important connection between multiple community destinations - the Needler Plaza, community soccer fields, the High School, and eventually the hospital. This facility for non-motorized users will significantly increase safety and reduce potential injuries and fatalities. INDOT data states that the average daily traffic count on State Road 3 in this area is 10,516 cars per day. With no sidewalks, this poses a major safety concern for students, residents, and visitors who walk or bike along the edge of the road. We hope you enjoy our new greenway for our incredible county! Have fun and be safe!

Thanks Chris (both of you).

Thanks Chris (both of you).

From Chris Wilson, Member of Bruin Cross Country team that finished 5th in the State and Class of '88....

I used to think XC wasn't so much a team sport, but these guys in the pictures with me, as well as the guys who came before me (guys like Kevin Roth, Dave Dell, Troy Brown, Ron Sharp, the Osborn's...) changed my mind. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been on some great Blackford County teams in several different sports, and I often reminisce about my time with those teams. Once you experience being on a good team (and I don't just mean win/loss wise), you'll never forget it; you'll crave being on another good team all throughout your life. Even in the workplace today, I strive to find and surround myself with that winning team of people. I would encourage Blackford County youth to go out for at least one sport and give 100% of themselves, so they could look back fondly years down the road.

Picture:
1987...1/2 mile into the 5K race (probably around 2:15). We decided to run as a pack that meet. Chris Coy was calling out times. L-R: Kenny Boyle, Chris Wilson, Rob McHenry, Jason Short.
