Hauʻoli Lā Hānau to this beautiful wa'a that Nakoa built for . The front manu and amas are a family design of Aloha Beach Services that date back decades. Nakoa had a great time building her and was so honored to do it. We love going down to Waikiki and seeing the wa'a filled with guests surfing waves with some of the greatest beach boys in the world.

This photo by our good friend Momi brings back so many memories. This is us with the Hawaiian sailing canoe association, a non-profit founded by our family in 1987 along with several others. This photo is of all of us launching our 6 man sailing canoes from Keokea on the island of Hawaii. Back then, there was no way to get our sailing canoes in the water at this spot other than using picnic tables to slide the canoe in with everyone helping each other. You can't see the hill above in this picture, but there would be someone at the top counting the waves in each set, then when there was a lull, he would yell down that it was safe to start to paddle the canoe off the beach and out of the shore break. We all would have to wear duck tape on our feet to protect them as we carried the canoes because of the sharp lava!!! Once everyone was safely out, all canoes would then sail across the Alenuihaha channel to Hana Maui. This channel is listed as one of the top 10 most dangerous channels. Oh, the stories we could tell.

"To learn, revive, educate and practice those ancient Hawaiian skills and values as they relate to the Hawaiian sailing canoe and our culture". Perpetuating this part of our culture and sharing our sailing canoes with our guests is our way to honor this mission statement.

Every year we start here on the island of Hawaii and sail the major channels connecting the islands all the way to Kauai, stopping along the way on Maui, Molokai, Oahu and ending on Kauai just as our ancestors did. To learn more about the HSCA the link is in our bio.

This coming week, while Captain Neil is on a much deserved vacation, Captain Nakoa , Captain Nalu, and crew will be sharing their aloha with our guests. Book your sailing canoe adventure at the and join in on the stories and an incredible day learning about our Hawaiian sailing culture. Nakoa (our founder) builds all of our sailing canoes and most recently was the canoe builder and consultant for the live action Moana movie that just wrapped up. We are stoked these two will be spending less time in our shop and more time on the water doing what they love. We have some exciting news about our company coming up to share, so stay tuned.
