Environmental Health and Safety Manager-Corn Island Shipyard
Established in 1988, Corn Island Shipyard has quietly become the premier builder of custom barges and specialized marine structures. Since the launch of our first barge in 1991, CIS has aspired to offer durable, high-quality products at a reasonable cost. We have achieved this goal by producing our vessels with a high degree of automation, employing a highly skilled workforce, and offering in-house design and engineering utilizing state-of-the-industry 2D and 3D design programs. CIS has produced custom marine vessels for customers on the East coast, West coast, Gulf coast, Great Lakes, and most states on the inland waterway system.
Corn Island Shipyard specializes in the manufacture of custom designed products for both ocean service and inland waterway service. We produce vessels that are classed ABS as well as unclassed vessels based upon our customers’ requirements. We currently have the capacity to build vessels up to 600 feet in length and 108 feet in width.

Job Description
• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive EHS programs and policies that comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, IDEM, and other relevant regulations. Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
• Design and deliver training programs for employees on safety practices, emergency response, hazardous material handling, and environmental compliance.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses. Prepare detailed reports and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Conduct risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify potential safety and environmental risks. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
• Oversee the implementation of safety controls and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols.
• Maintain and submit all required environmental and safety reports, records, and documentation.
• Oversee hazardous waste disposal, recycling programs, and other environmental initiatives to minimize the shipyard's environmental footprint.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
• Promote a culture of safety through communication, training, and recognition programs. Encourage employee participation in safety initiatives.
• Stay current with EHS regulations and industry best practices. Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance safety and environmental performance.
• Responsible for maintaining and updating SPCC/SWPPP.
• Prepares and submits Hazardous Waste Reports, TRI reports, Annual Emissions Inventory Reports.
• Is familiar with Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator regulations, ensures hazardous waste containers are properly marked, labeled, and dated, performs weekly 90-Day hazardous waste storage area inspections, coordinates hazardous waste pick-up and disposal, ensures hazardous waste manifests are filled out properly.
• Prepares and submits FESOP Quarterly/Semi-Annual monitoring reports, and Annual Air Permit Compliance Certification to the state.
• Ensures paint VOC/HAP information is properly documented.
Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS management, preferably in a shipyard, maritime, or industrial setting.
• Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials are preferred.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations. Understanding of maritime safety and environmental issues is a plus.
• Excellent communication, training, and leadership skills. Ability to analyze data, conduct risk assessments, and develop effective safety programs.
• Ability to conduct physical inspections, including climbing ladders and stairs, and walking on uneven surfaces.
• Occasional travel may be required.
Job Type: Full time
Annual Salary: $75,000 - $85,000

• Mon-Friday 7:00am – 4:30pm
• Hours may vary based on company need
