Dear Guests, Friends and Family:
Hurricane Helene came very close to us and has devastated many of our neighboring areas. Although evacuation in our area was highly recommended being that the River is in front of us, at the cabin they only lost power. Reports of lots of rain and high winds were also experienced. We pray for those who lost everything and those still missing. For the grace of God, we are ok. We will help in any way we possibly can to those in need around NC. 🙏🏼

Many bird species in the park have migrated to warmer climates for the winter. However, you can still be on the lookout for some birds that have adapted to tolerate the winter conditions. The Northern Cardinal is a permanent resident of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They will forage for winter berries, nuts, and seeds. You are more likely to see these birds in the winter due to their bright red feathers. In the fall, they will molt their feathers and grow a new, brighter layer of plumage. Male Cardinals have this adaptation to find a mate very early in the spring and nest in higher-quality habitats.
