Located just an hour south of St Louis, is a little slice of heaven with a lot of nature and charm to offer. Nestled in the sleepy little town of Hematite, Happy Camp is situated on 10 acres stretched

out beside almost a mile of shoreline on the beautiful spring-fed Joachim Creek. The Joachim (pronounced “ Joe – Ack – come” by the locals) is simply amazing. Less than 100 miles, so considered a creek, it starts at a spring in Desoto, MO, with its natural flowing watercourse ending into the Mississippi River. As most of the shoreline is privately owner, access is very limited, so it’s a real privilege to be able to personally enjoy its pristine splendor. Shallow and clear it, what it lacks in depth, it more than makes up for in the wide array of beauty and wildlife; birds, deer, turkey, ducks, clams, and over 40 species of fish, etc. Once a residence, then a chicken farm turned private mobile home park, the property is being refreshed into a park-like camp. Happy Camp offers the opportunity for getting back to nature with limited electronics, almost no wi-fi ;), plenty of fresh air, BBQ’s available for use, and the chance for a cozy, nighttime campfire. (There’s also a Porta-potty for the full experience!)

Unique to Happy Camp is the local history, gorgeous setting, an abundance of complimentary firewood for campfire nights, available kayaks…. Plus, last, but certainly not least, the Happy Camp farm animals that free-range the whole property – yes, a chicken may join you for breakfast if you allow it – so hold onto your toast! 

Please note this property is located at the end of half-mile long gravel driveway….It is a PRIVATE camping / ‘glamping’ experience that is invitation only. Owners are on site to answer questions, and also appreciate you observing their privacy while you have an awesome time in nature. The property location and set up is suitable for the physically capable – This is not handicapped accessible property. Happy Camp is for folks looking to get away and play in nature, only 6 miles from the nearest Walmart, Happy Camp is a world away with it’s secluded feel tucked in behind the trees – so it's easy to relax out in the woods enjoying the water, yet know it’s only a quick trip if anything was forgotten. This was created and gifted to us by our last guests, along with crème brûlée - forgot to take a pic of dessert, it was delish! We are so blessed to meet the best people staying at the cottage ❤️

Been a little while since posting anything here (life is good and busy 🙂)…
Just wanted to congratulate Jessica and Ty (and grandma Kelly) on the newest arrival in the wee hours of the morning today - baby girl Juliann Kate. She is the 5th home birth for this couple, adding to the 2 big brothers and 2 big sisters who were anxiously awaiting her appearance.
Time for another trip out to Happy Camp so the kids can introduce her to the chickens 😃. Blessings on your family and so excited for you all!! ❤️
