Yeaterday we hosted Walt Lester and his crew from Fort Drum on what was potentially our last salmon and lake trout trip of the season. The salmon were not cooperative for us, but everyone took home some fillets for the dinner table.

A huge thank you to Walt is in order. He fished with us THREE times this summer. Three times. That is a record for us. We are so thankful and appreciative of your patronage Walt. We not only caught some fish, but we had some great conversations and made lasting memories.

Today, we were honored to host Walt Lester and his party for the second time in a month. We were met with favorable conditions, but the fish were not overly cooperative. It was staggering how many fish we floated over today in the trench out of Henderson Harbor to not have more action. We did find a few fish to work with us further offshore though.

Love these late season starts.

Two examples of the class of fish to be taken in late August from the eastern basin of Lake Ontario. The last few days of crazy north winds are sure to bring in some colder water, and with it the big fish activate and it will be game on. We have prime dates left if you want in.

A huge thank you to the following people is in order. We cannot thank them enough. My wife, Mackenzie for the patience, understanding and support. She was a rock the last few weeks. Captain Bill Saiff III for his guidance and insight. Captain Dave McRae for his patience, insight and resources. Harbors End Marina in Henderson Harbor for their patience and their resources. Anything we ask of them, the answer is always yes without hesitation. Lastly, my father. He is our boat and engine tech and does all the work we ask of him without hesitation, and does it well. The network in the eastern basin of Lake Ontario is second to none.

Our social media feeds have been quiet the last few weeks, but we certainly have been working hard behind the scenes. We had to repower our 260 Shamrock, the Hit and Run. After we rebuilt the engine(automotive SBC 400) over the winter, everything was going great. Then we noticed a little oil in the bilge each day we ran it. By the end of July we decided it had gotten to a point it had to be addressed again. We tore down the engine and found some issues that were too costly to fix and not a guarantee. We decided it was time to move on to a different power plant.

We made a few calls and found a low hours complete marine 350 Crusader right in Henderson Harbor. After conferring with our tech(dad), we divided to make the switch. We ran the engine in the driveway, updated the boat side wiring and dropped it in. After a few adjustments and fine tuning, we are back on the water with an updated engine designed for the rigors of marine use.

Today, we hosted the Boomhower’s as they saw a nice mix of browns, lakers, kings and a nice steelhead come aboard. Overcast skies produced early action, while later sun made us work a little harder.

We recently had our Maine crew in town for their annual two day extravaganza. They went home with a mix of browns, salmon and lakers for the freezer. Thank you captain Kristian Loftus of Wallaholic Outdoors again for the second boat.

A huge thanks to Chris Stone for bringing these guys out with us today. This salmon season continues to impress. Double digit bites with a bunch coming unhooked keeping us on our toes all day.

A huge thank you to the Colon family and friends for fishing with us and captain Fred Kucik of Shady Lady Sport Fishing Charters. Lots of lakers, some salmon and a dandy brown trout on this scorcher of a day.

Schools out! Your captain can fish 7 days a week now. Salmon season is upon is. If you’ve been hemming and hawing about taking the kids on a great family outing, now is the time. Like Alex.
