We are facing uncharted territory as we raise our kids in the remarkably rich but increasingly complicated digital age. Our kids spend less time outdoors and more time in structured activities; this means more hours in front of screens and less time working things out for themselves. here kids once roamed freely are largely gone, and with it, the network of parents who kept an eye on each others kids. It can feel like we are in this parenting game all by ourselves. Summer camp can add a dimension to your child's life that’s hard to get during the busy school year. Camp offers a fun, healthy summer experience that gives parents and kids a break from daily routines, but we wouldn’t be doing this if it were only fun and games. We believe in the power of the camp experience to build social confidence, optimism, and independence while giving kids connections with, and adventures in, the natural world. Camp is also a way to give kids some of the important tools they’ll need for future success. From this stems a powerful sense of purpose: We provide the safest, most exciting, and most substantive summer camp experience through our personal attention to each camper, our caring attitude, and our competence. A cogent philosophy is even more important. While our campers are having a blast (it’s a lot easier to get their attention when they are relaxed and having fun), we are subtly reinforcing our 5 R's: respect, responsibility, resilience, taking reasonable risks, and reaching out to others. How do we accomplish this? We start with great role models who want to give back because they had powerful experiences at Adventure Treks and Camp Pinnacle in their youth. When someone who seems larger than life takes an interest in a child, it instills a wonderful sense of self-worth. Next comes a unique program. We turn off the electronics (we aren’t making a judgment; we just know kids need a break), slow down, enjoy nature, and engage in real-life conversation. We spend our days outside giving kids room to roam–sometimes freely–within a campus that’s both stunning and inspiring. We have endless activities where they gain real hands-on skills. Then we take them out of camp to climb rocks, play in waterfalls, and raft rivers. We also give kids some power over the direction of their cabin community. We carefully facilitate our time together and model face-to-face communication and solving differences as they arise. We reinforce kindness and good deeds with public praise. Every camper is recognized for the unique contributions they bring to the cabin group. And it works–friendships stick here, and camp is a place where kids discover their best selves. We won’t rest on our laurels. The world is changing, and kids are changing with it. We are always studying the latest youth development and education literature, and we are not afraid to take the best ideas from others and apply their thinking to Camp Pinnacle. We rely on 85 years of tradition–kids do need both a framework and a sense of tradition–but we also keep camp relevant to the digital world. In short, Camp Pinnacle is kid heaven and a great resource for parents. Straight from the Land Down Under and back to bring the thunder—Zac and Bridie are returning to Camp Pinnacle! ⚡️🌏 These two Aussie legends were an unstoppable force last summer, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and plenty of blue team spirit to the color relay! 💙🏅

Zac is back for his third summer, and Bridie for her second, so you know they’re basically honorary locals at this point. Whether they’re lighting up a room or just making sure no one confuses a canoe with a crocodile, camp wouldn’t be the same without them! 🐊⛺️

Every morning after breakfast, campers gather at the amphitheater for one of Camp Pinnacle’s most legendary traditions: Lakeside! ☀️🎶 Hosted by our head counselors, Lakeside is where campers get their daily announcements... but that’s just the beginning. Picture wacky skits, hilarious songs, staff members unexpectedly taking a dive into the lake, and a whole lot of energy to start the day off right! 🌊🤪🕺

Standing tall (literally!) and bringing all the fun and kindness back to Camp Pinnacle—Spenser and Sophia are returning for another amazing summer! ⛺️✨ These two were incredible co-counselors last year, becoming fast friends and earning the respect of campers and staff alike.

Isaac and Josh—our dynamic canoe duo! 🇬🇧🇪🇸 Hailing from the UK and Spain, these two became fast friends last summer and were an unbeatable team both on and off the water. Whether they were leading unforgettable canoe adventures or creating a welcoming, fun atmosphere for campers, they earned the love and respect of everyone at camp. ❤️✨

It’s hard to believe that our final session for 2024 is coming to an end. For the past five days, our junior campers have been on a whirlwind of fun, laughter, and new experiences. From sunrise to sunset, it’s been non-stop action and joy. Whether they’re mastering mountain biking, playing pickleball, or tie-dyeing teeshirts, every moment here has been filled with excitement and growth. 🌟

But the best part? The magic of Camp Pinnacle lies truly in the friendships that have blossomed. It’s been amazing to watch the campers continuously support each other, share laughs, and build connections that will last long after camp ends. 🌞

But until then, here’s to many more adventures, friendships, and memories in these final days ahead. ❤️

Yesterday was Opening Day for our junior campers, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome all the fresh faces to their home away from home! The energy was electric as the campers arrived with wide eyes and huge smiles, ready to dive into their very first camp experience.⛺️

The sun was shining, the laughter was infectious, and the excitement was palpable as everyone settled into their cabins, met their counselors, and explored the campgrounds.🌞

For most, this is their first taste of the camp magic that we cherish so much here at Camp Pinnacle, and we feel so honored to be part of that journey.✨

Saying farewell to family was bittersweet as always, but stepping into a world of new (and old) friendships and exciting adventures made it all worthwhile. Let the two weeks of fun begin!⚡️

Double trouble! Congratulations to Red Team for taking home the Pinnacle Cup twice in a row this summer! Their victory is definitely a testament to their tremendous teamwork and unwavering positivity. They’ve not only won the color relay this session, but also our admiration for their camaraderie and determination. This summer our advanced mountain bikers got to shred at Ride Kanuga! World class downhill mountain bike trails and a great skills development area right across the street from CP are too good of a resource not to take advantage of.

Happy EARTH DAY! We are grateful for this little place we call home in WNC. Today, take time to get outside, smell the flowers, splash in puddles, and enjoy all the beauty around you! In honor of Earth Day, we hope you will join us this Saturday for a virtual day of service. Our friends at Camplify NC started this campaign to encourage their leadership students to find ways to support their community from home after their service projects were canceled. Please share your acts of service using the hashtag #campdayofservice on Saturday, April 25.
