SMP adds Tesla to Its Crash Data Download Capabilities

Did you know that the data collected from a vehicles EDR (“Black Box”) using the latest versions of Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System software can obtain hundreds of important facts about a crash? Vehicle speed, seatbelt usage, lateral and longitudinal delta-V movement, airbag deployment status and much more can be collected from the EDR module 5 seconds prior to impact. At Stratton, Moore & Painter, Inc., we take this information very seriously as it can clearly spell out many of the details of a crash event needed to properly reconstruct to events. We have the latest tools to perform these downloads for most car and truck models sold in the US, including Hyundai, Toyota, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, BMW and our most recent addition, Tesla.

This new EDR kit for Tesla supports all Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y.

SMP also has the capabilities to download most large tractor-trailers as well using our Forensic Link Adaptor and our Nexiq USB-Link-2 devices and software.

Give us a call if we can help in any way.

Stratton, Moore & Painter, Inc. is pleased to announce that the Bosch CDR 900 has just arrived!!

The CDR 900 is essential for the coming support of new vehicle model years (2018) and EDR systems, including the addition of new OEM vehicle support and General Motors active safety system event data readout.

The CDR 900 is needed to support more demanding performance and communications protocols from today’s vehicle network systems.

The Bosch CDR 900 is a high-performance Vehicle Communications Interface (VCI) device used to connect and communicate with many complex vehicle diagnostic networks through the OBD connector and communicate directly with vehicle electronic control modules (ECUs). The Bosch CDR 900 is used for retrieval of crash data stored in one or more vehicles ECUs such as airbag control modules and pedestrian protection ECUs. The Bosch CDR 900 employs the lastest technology for communications with vehicle networks supporting the latest vehicle communications protocols.

Give us a call to discuss how this can help you with your case.

Inattentional Blindness, sometimes referred to as "driver expectancy," is a condition that we all have experienced at some point. This is a condition, where as, when we are operating a motor vehicle and focus on a condition or event out in front of us, renders us completely "blind" to important or unexpected events that may go completely unnoticed by the driver.

For example, imagine you're driving down a road and see a herd of deer crossing about 200 hundred yards out in front of you. You concentrate intensely on the herd such as to make sure you have time to react if it appears the herd will not cross by the time you get there. Unexpectedly, a pedestrian begins to cross the road legally at a traffic signal that has just turned in their favor just 30 yards away. You never saw the signal and you never saw the pedestrian. It is critical to understand that we see with our minds, not with our eyes.

Our technicians are able to interpret and analyze the data that we retrieve from the downloads from the Electronic Data Recorders (EDR) and Electronic Control Modules (ECM.)

Contact us if we can help you with a download and analyzing the data from the EDRs and ECMs.

Stratton, Moore & Painter is able to emulate the electronic systems of a truck. Utilizing the Synercon Technologies Smart Sensor Simulator 2 "Truck-In-A-Box" technology enables us to retrieve data from the Electronic Control Units (ECU) from damaged vehicles and perform a forensically sound bench-top download. We can provide a fault-free environment for a forensically neutral download of the data contained in an ECU.

Let Stratton, Moore & Painter show you how we can provide solutions across the wide array of ECUs found on the road. Contact us if we can help you in this area of your case.

Reconstruction needs to have an understanding of vehicle lamps, as several situations requiring a proper lamp examination are likely to arise. These situations often raise the issue of headlamp illumination:

 * Were the headlamps on or off?
 * Was the driver operating his vehicle with the bright
lights on?
 * Was a headlamp nonfunctional prior to the collision?

Similar questions could be asked of taillights or brake lights.

Collision types may also suggest a lamp examination. Opposite direction collisions raise the issue as to why one vehicle encroached on another vehicle's path or why there was no reaction by the driver of an oncoming car to a car passing in the oncoming car's lane of travel. There are high speed rear-end collisions in which the driver of the striking car does not react to the car ahead. Were the taillights functional in the lead vehicle?

Many questions arise concerning vehicle lamps. Let Stratton, Moore & Painter, Inc. advise you should this be an issue in your case.
