We had an abbreviated Wright Cottage Work weekend today and accomplished a lot. The inside sparkles and the outside shines with the help of Hal, Becky, Margaret and Lisa! To all those who follow The Wright Cottage on Facebook, I wanted to take the opportunity let you know our current status. My - brother Hal and I went up today to check on things after the Hurricane. Here is what we found:

Power is on!
Water is available!
Internet/TVs work great!

We had some trees fall - the apple tree our mother loved so much fell over. It's been leaning for years so it was probably time. We had 1 really big tree that fell in the back behind the shed - but it did not damage anything - same for a tree in the woods on the left side and one up front. We had a dogwood tree in the front flower bed split and had to remove part of that.

We went through town and many, if not all, of the restaurants are open as are many of the shops. I suspect by the weekend; things will be pretty busy.

All this said, we were very fortunate, and we know that the damage we had is minimal compared to others. We have some weekdays available in October and open weekends in November and December. Wintertime in Highlands is special. We have some open days in January and weekends in February - including the 3 day President's weekend. You can hike, ice skate, snow tube, ski (at Sapphire) or maybe swim at the recreation center. Catch up on your reading and napping by our gas logs and just relax.
