Happy anniversary to the Great Space Pancakes! It was 63 years ago today in Eagle River, Wisconsin that local plumber Joe Simonton claimed he was visited by aliens who supposedly gave him extraterrestrial pancakes in exchange for drinking water. Whether or not you believe his story (Jacques Valee and Dr. J. Allen Hynek both did!), here’s to the endless possibilities of the universe!

November 16th was the birthday of Hawaii's King Kalākaua, who was knowledgeable and welcoming to the rest of the world, but also led a vital revival of Hawaiian culture that still resonates today in Hilo's Merrie Monarch Festival. Personal accounts of paranormal experiences also abound during the festival. Ancestral spirits seem to stir as the competitions approach. It seems Hilo's annual celebration of Hawaiian culture brings everyone, even possibly spirits, to town. One can't help but imagine that King Kalākaua would approve.
