The end of something truly magical...we will all miss the only Mermaid Encounter Boat Tour in the world, but it is time to shift our focus to make a bigger impact.
Just because the magic isn't in the water anymore doesn't mean it's gone completely! Be sure to visit our retail location at Tanger 2 for a magical experience where you can turn into a mermaid/pirate, pan for shark teeth, explore our educational displays, and more!
Our question of the week comes from Marcie Sheridan: Mermaid Nina, are you excited for retirement or sad about it?
Answer from Mermaid Nina: Today is my very last Mermaid Encounter Boat Tour ever. It's definitely a bittersweet moment. I will miss hearing those little voices call my name while I'm hanging out in the marsh by myself. I will miss all of the funny things the kids say. I will miss the fun grown ups that make the most out of their kids' experiences. I will miss swimming my tail off to escape that (ever-so-persistent) Professor Al G., I will miss educating about ocean conservation and seeing the impact it makes on the kids who are my new found friends. Most of all, I will miss being in nature, surrounded by some of the coolest wildlife I've ever experienced.
This being said, I am also very excited to start on my new journey of integrating Flounder the Purrmaid's AIC button training into captive dolphin facilities to hopefully give these captive dolphins a fool-proof way to advocate for themselves and increase their quality of life. Lily is ultimately why the Mermaid Encounter Tours existed in the first place, and Lily is the reason I am moving on as well. I want Lily's life to be the best it can be given the circumstances and I plan to continue to work my tail off to make that happen.
The past 8 years of Mermaid Encounter Tours are probably going to be the best years of my life and I cherish every memory I have of them. I loved making so many dreams come true, and the experience is one I will never forget. Thank you to all of our guests for your support throughout the years. I am so touched by all of you. ๐
Today is Flounder's 3rd birthday!
Flounder the Purrmaid became nationally known as "The Christmas Tree Cat" this past January when she went viral because she threw a tantrum when we took the Christmas tree down, but she's also quite talented. She does kitty ballet, she paints (her paintings can be found at our retail location at Tanger 2), she swims, paddle boards, and she even talks using AIC buttons (which are also sold at our retail location!)
Watch the video until the end to see her "talking" or follow her on Instagram, TikTok, or Youtube @floundercat
@Flounder_Meatloaf is the best talking animal sidekick a mermaid could ever ask for! Happy birthday, Flo! ๐
Happy Birthday Captain John! John is one of our captains. When he's not on the boat, he surprises us with his epic air-fiddling skills! Help us wish Captain John a very happy birthday today! ๐
#TailflipTuesday made even better by this mermazing testimonial by Mermaid Lyric and her mom, Jade. If you haven't booked your Turn into a Mermaid Experience and Photoshoot with us yet, water you waiting for?

Help us wish a very mermazing birthday to Rebecca tomorrow! Rebecca is one of our mermaid photographers and if you signed up for our email newsletters (which you totally should!), she also designs and sends them out! She designs our rack cards, promotional materials, and even some t-shirt designs! She is great at what she does and we hope she has a birthday that is as mermazing as her! ๐
