Blue Ridge Country magazine gave a nice shout out to our lovely county seat, the City of Hinton as one of the "14 Great Towns for Fall".

They highlighted Hinton's fantastic annual event Hinton Railroad Days 2024, and gave huge compliments to our very special Lucky Rivers Cafe and Catering and The Market on Courthouse Square. Even mentions a hidden gem downtown, 3 Rivers Studios as well as The Guest House Inn. Everyone is catching on that Summers County is the place to be!

Where are you exploring this week?

📍Bacon Falls, Greenbrier River
Class III

Bacon Falls is the first rapid below Talcott, where the flow channels on the right against a cliff face. (The Talcott put-in is just upstream of the Barger Springs bridge near the intersection of Hwy. 12 and Barger Springs Rd. Ramp and parking but no toilet.)

At higher flows Bacon Falls can be skirted on the left. At moderate to low flows it has two parts. The first part is a small ledge angled to the right, which can be run in various places. Or you can simply begin on the far right near the bank, avoiding the ledges. There is a wave train along the cliff, usually with an eddy on the left and decent surfing waves. For the second part of the rapid, angle left to avoid rocks on the right.

Always check river levels before exploring and always practice water safety in and around water.
