Wooden lacrosse stick making is a proud Akwesasne tradition that has been passed down for generations. A century ago, Akwesasne became a commercial hub for wooden lacrosse sticks. By the 1940s, Mohawk makers of Akwesasne manufactured nearly all of the world’s lacrosse sticks! Mohawk women took part in production by lacing sticks using leather and sinew.
