BEHIND THE BIG HOUSE is only 3 1/2 weeks away! It's time to introduce you to a few of our friends who will be joining us to make this a powerful event.
Today's special guest hails from the Chicago area where she was raised. TAMMY GIBSON is a passionate African American Travel Historian, Educator, and Storyteller. Through her company, Sankofa TravelHer, she searches out the monuments, statues, grave markers, and sites to remind us that "Black History is More than 28 days." Her Facebook and website posts, essays, articles, and even a book allow us to travel with her and keep on learning.
When Ms. Tammy is telling stories at Behind the Big House, she shares with us the life of a laundress from the times of slavery. The steps to maintaining clean and pressed clothes and linens for those who lived in the Big House were long, physically demanding, and complicated, using chemicals that needed to be handled carefully. With a large household, it could be a full-time job. Often enslaved children were asked to assist with carrying water from the well or cistern and heating it over an open fire.
Our thanks and appreciation to Tammy. 🧡💜 We sure look forward to seeing you!
