Merry Christmas from all of us at Coldwater Alaska. As we gather with friends and family, we want to express our gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our journeys this year. Whether you joined us for spearfishing, elopement, or a water taxi ride to your next hike, we're thankful for the community that has grown around our adventures in Kachemak Bay.

Each excursion and each shared experience on the water strengthens the bonds we have with each other and with this magnificent place we call home. May this Christmas find you surrounded by those you love and the memories of the adventures that brought us together.

Here's to the spirit of exploration that keeps us all connected to the wonders of the bay. Enjoy the holiday, and we'll see you out on the water.

Reflecting on the summer's catch, there's an undeniable sense of gratitude that fills us.

As the salmon harvested this summer feeds our family and friends, we're reminded how thankful we are for our community and all that Alaska provides.

Our newest addition to the Coldwater lineage, the North Cape, has now navigated its inaugural summer.

Crafted with care by the talented folks at Bay Weld Boats here in Homer, this custom catamaran isn't just a boat - it's a bridge connecting passengers to some of Alaska's most breathtaking places.

With winter around the corner, we're taking a moment to look back on this past season, filled with epic adventures around Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet.

Thanks to photographers and friends Kristian Irey and Matt Lowber for capturing some stellar days on the water with our amazing community.

Don't miss out on the last photo with a boatload of healthy halibut and good company.

This epic trip is too good not to reshare.

"After fighting through some rough seas, we got to our spot & quickly started landing halibut onboard with rod & reel, followed by a nice-sized butt that I shot. As the day moved on, shot a solid fish, so we took a short break from the commotion. my gloves came off, & I grabbed my camera to take photos.

By the time Brad & I were back at the boat, everyone was onboard for a rest when Keil yelled down that he’d seen a large fish come close to the surface following his rod & reel bait. 'Take my camera!' I said, exchanging my Canon for a different type of cannon. I quickly loaded my Marauder 47 & reminded myself to 'just go take a look. This dive doesn’t matter.' Calmly, I sank to the bottom, barely settling in amongst the kelp, when I saw the massive tail of a halibut oscillating away from me. I navigated the bottom, using cover to close the gap.

Now within range, I backed off my approach. Curious to why I was no longer pursuing, the fish turned & gave me the shot I was looking for. I placed a solid headshot & returned to the surface. 'This one has gumption, boys!' I yelled to everyone on deck.

Just about the time our crew all lined up along the rails of the North Cape to watch, the halibut went into turbo diesel mode, & my fight began. My headshot allowed me to steer the fish to the surface, keeping immense pressure on my reel line. I was pulled down several times, but eventually, the fish broke the surface, tail-walking like a marlin & sending tail whips into the air.

I fought with everything I had to grab my spear on both sides of the fish, every muscle in my body struggling to control the heaving motion of the halibut. I jammed my hands into his gills & bear-hugged the fish back to the boat, his pharyngeal jaws gnawing on my pinkies. Mostly subdued due to several attempts to kill it with my knife, the halibut was tail-roped at the boat & pulled onboard.

The fight was glorious & I was happy that the fish got in more than a few good punches before the tide of the fight turned in my favor. The ride home was a solemn, gratitude-filled trip through a sunset-laden, glassy surfaced ocean.” -
