Local Captain Billy Farrar wrote in a fb post, “Such a privilege to be apart of this amazing program Citrus County Education Foundation and Homosassa Guides Association along with our supporters that help make this happen, this has made a dream come true for many. Having the opportunity to first hand bring these kids to the wildlife and water and bestow it’s beauty upon them, will hopefully count for our future generations fishery and conservation efforts. Each child that will go to 5th grade in this county will have the chance to come along! Huge shoutout to CaptainMike Baize for all he does and putting this together ! We can’t thank you enough.”

Capt. Billy Farrar grew up on the banks of the Homosassa River. He caught his first fish there. Now he makes his living guiding angling enthusiasts in the salty inshore

🚩BOLO for boat/boaters involved in hit and run at the scallop grounds in Crystal River - Homosassa on Thursday, July 6, 3:45PM.
Most likely dark, single engine. Some eyewitnesses say it was a newer looking SeaFox very light blue with chrome lettering 22-26 ft, single engine and white t-top. One person says it may have been a Robalo. Boat driver described as a portly man with dark hair and a woman 4-5 ppl total on boat. They stopped to look after they hit the scalloper and then drove off. Divers were in the water with flag up, high, and large. Witnesses said there wasn’t another boat around and this boat zoomed in out of nowhere 200 ft from a boat that had a dive flag out, a large child play mat and two buoys. Scalloper dove just in time to avoid losing legs but has broken bones, muscle trauma and deep propeller cuts including one that sliced completely through his heel bone severely wounding him.

MESSAGE FROM FWC: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is calling on the public for help as they investigate a vessel strike incident that occurred in Homosassa on July 6. The FWC is seeking information that could lead to the identification of the vessel involved in the accident.
The incident took place at approximately 3:45 p.m. when a man diving for scallops was struck by a vessel’s propeller at the scallop grounds northwest of St. Martins River in the Crystal River/Homosassa area. Shockingly, the vessel fled the scene, leaving the victim behind. The injured individual was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Eyewitnesses provided some details about the vessel under investigation. According to their accounts, the boat in question is believed to be either a Robalo or Sea Fox with a top. The vessel’s body was described as being white, beige, or blue. Unfortunately, the operator of the vessel has not been identified, but witnesses described him as a middle-aged white male with a large build, wearing a white shirt.
In their efforts to gather additional evidence, the FWC is urging homeowners residing near the Crystal River or Withlacoochee River to review any security camera footage they may have. They are specifically looking for a vessel matching the description provided between the hours of 1:30 p.m. and sunset on the day of the incident. If you have any information related to the operator or the vessel involved, the FWC encourages you to reach out. You can contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (888-404-3922). Alternatively, you can send a text message to 847411 (Tip411) with the keyword “FWC” and provide any relevant information. It’s worth noting that tipsters may be eligible for a reward.
The FWC also took this opportunity to remind the public of safety guidelines while scalloping. Divers are advised to remain within 300 feet of a properly displayed divers-down flag or device while in open water. If diving in a river, inlet, or navigation channel, the distance should be reduced to 100 feet. Boat operators must adhere to these guidelines and maintain idle speed when within 300 feet of a divers-down flag or device in open water, or within 100 feet of one in a river, inlet, or navigational channel.

If you’re a fishing guide please TAKE THE OATH. If you care about conservation, PLEASE SHARE. Thank you.

As fishing guides, let’s take conservation into our own hands and protect future generations fisheries. I’m taking a fishery conservation oath by not including myself as captain in any limits. My clients hire me to take them fishing so that includes their limits, not mine. Hopefully MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife takes this matter into their own hand and remove all Captain and crew limits for all species but until then, stop being selfish and take the oath.

PLEASE SHARE if you treasure our Citrus County - Homosassa / Crystal River waterways. The Florida Department of Transportation is intentionally diverting untreated polluted stormwater runoff into a Florida Outstanding Waterway. This cannot be allowed to continue. This failed stormwater system must be redesigned so the water is diverted away from our precious waterways, not directly into the rivers like is happening now.
Governor Ron DeSantis, please, we need your help to get this corrected properly. Not the bandaid FDOT wants to apply. That’s what got them into this mess in the first place.

Southwest Florida Water Management District and Florida Department of Environmental Protection need to step up and hold FDOT accountable just as they would if a private entity had caused this environmental disaster. The health of our river system and the marine ecosystem depend on it. Enough damage has been done. The time is now before it gets any worse.

DOT has confirmed our beliefs as of today, August 2nd at 3:05pm. This map is 100% accurate of what is going on and DOT does not intend on re-directing the untreated drainage pond flow to the Halls River but instead is going to "de-silt" the canals and has no remedy as of right now. WE MUST STOP THIS NOW. We need Governor Ron DeSantis to stand up and follow his campaign word to protect our waterways. DOT designed this drainage plan and needs to fix it. The once beautiful Halls River is on the verge of being destroyed. Help protect our waterways by spreading this map across the globe.
