Have you ever heard the banana superstition when it comes to boating? One of our young passengers made this awesome artwork for Captain Traci and is proudly displayed in the Manatee Snorkeling Center shop.
The superstition that bananas are bad luck for fishing boats is rooted in legends and superstitions from Pacific cultures, including Hawaii and Polynesia. The belief that bananas bring disaster to fishing boats became firmly established in European culture by the 1700s.
Hawaiian fisherman claim that bringing bananas on their boats is bad luck. The superstition is that a banana on the boat will cause not only fish not to bite but also mechanical breakdowns on the boat. The story varies in different places and cultures, but almost anywhere in the world if you ask a Captain, they'll be quick to tell you, "No bananas on my boat."

Homosassa Manatee Snorkeling Center would like to take a moment to offer our deepest condolences to Bill and everyone at Bird's Underwater for the devastating loss of Diane.
Captain Traci met Diane in 1999 when she was first starting her business, and she was very kind and supportive. Our hearts are heavy today.

We never know what we will see in Nature's Theme Park, the Nature Coast of Florida. We truly never know what exactly may come into view. We often do see Bald Eagles, Osprey, Tarpon, Otters, several birds, and of course, the eternally happy, Bottlenose Dolphin.
