After months of planning and preparation, The Historic Honesdale Walking Tour and Scavenger Hunt Candy Bar program is ready to launch on October 1st at participating local merchants. This is a great way to get out and enjoy time with your families and friends while learning about the amazing things that we have here in Honesdale. There is even a chance during the tour to stop and relax at the new Sycamore Point park and river trail. Stop at any of the participating merchants starting on Oct. 1st and buy a candy bar to get your tour card. There are also three candy bars in each box that have a Golden Ticket for a ride on the Stourbridge Line, A $15.00 gift Certificate at Historic Honesdale Gift Shop, or a $15.00 Gift Certificate at a participating merchant.
Most importantly, it is a chance to get out and enjoy time with our families, and yes, the kids can help their parents to show them how to use their cellphones to do the tour. LOL
*Just be sure that your cellphone has unlimited data package, we are not responsible for cellphone charges.

We still have cabins available for The Good Time Travelers cruise to Aruba and Curacao in February. Travel by Lisa has cabins blocked at a really good rate compared to what they are now for the same sailing, but we don't know how long they will let her hold them at those prices. We will never forget. Today the attached picture means even more. I took this photo at the Honesdale 9-11 Memorial during a day of remembrance. I was encouraged by this grandmother making sure that her grandson would never forget as well. I call the picture "Never Forget". Recently, the grandmother passed away and her celebration of life is tomorrow. My thoughts today are with those who perished on 9-11 and all of the first responders who rushed to their aid, as well as the family of Sandy DeGroat who volunteered for many organizations here in town. My last time with Sandy is when she was taking donations for Buddy Poppies in the park on Memorial Day. I will treasure that poppy forever knowing that Sandy has left the world better than she found it and has instilled in future generations to never forget.

There are still a few seats left for the "Rails & Tails" event for Sunday (Grandparent's Day) on The Stourbridge Line. As an added surprise, "Sir Victor E. Knight" from the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Knights Hockey team will be here at the station to greet passengers before the ride.

I am so disgusted with humanity right now. As you all know, I work for the Stourbridge Line rail excursions. Mr. Myles has spent more than anyone will ever know to keep this rail line operating here in the Birthplace of the American Railroad. He has several cars stored on our siding here in town to make room for the PA Railbikes to visit our town on Thursday and Sunday nights. These efforts bring people in to help our local economy, not to mention the thousands of people that come here to ride the train and the impact that they make on our local economy. This brings me to my point. In recent weeks, some piece of crap has broken into these historic railcars to pilfer and damage the contents of these cars. I am begging anyone locally who has witnessed anyone involved with this or has seen this individual carrying suitcases or items that they have taken from these cars to report it to Honesdale Borough police. I would also ask that anyone who sees anyone these items for sale on Facebook or Ebay or any local places that sell antique items to report as well. You may also reach me at 570-470-2697 with any information. I have lost faith in humanity. I will prosecute or do whatever I can in my power to stop this individual or others who hurt our business in any way. We are just trying to keep our local history alive.
