Earlier this summer - we had the most enchanting adventure along the Wailua River, leading to the breathtaking Fern Grotto. 🚣‍♂️✨ Surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature, this hidden gem is a true Hawaiian treasure. 🌺🌴

🌺 Hawai'i Statehood Fact #5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 🌺

Did you know about Hawai'i's State Symbols?

Bird: The Nene, also known as the Hawaiian Goose, is our state bird. It’s the world’s rarest goose and is found only in the Hawaiian Islands! 🦢

Flower: The Yellow Hibiscus, or Pua Aloalo, is the state flower. This beautiful bloom symbolizes old royalty, power, and respect in Hawaiian culture. 🌼

Land Mammal: The Hawaiian Hoary Bat, or Ōpe’ape’a, is the only native land mammal of Hawai'i. It’s a vital part of the ecosystem, helping with pest control. 🦇

Marine Mammal: The Hawaiian Monk Seal, known as 'Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua, is an endangered species and one of only two mammals native to Hawaii. 🌊

Tree: The Kukui, or Candlenut Tree, is the state tree. Its nuts were traditionally used for light, and it symbolizes enlightenment and protection. 🌳

Fish: The Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa, or Reef Triggerfish, is the state fish. Its name means “triggerfish with a snout like a pig” in Hawaiian! 🐟

🌺 Hawai'i Statehood Fact #4 🌺

Hawai'i is the only state in the U.S. with two official languages: English and Hawaiian. This recognition helps preserve the rich linguistic heritage and cultural identity of the Native Hawaiian people. 🗣️🌺

Hawai'i also has its own creole, Hawaiian Creole English, locally known as "Pidgin." Rooted in the plantation era, Pidgin is a vibrant mix of Native Hawaiian, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese and English. It's spoken throughout the islands still and varies from island to island.
