Learn how to safely and respectfully engage with the community, preserve and protect the culture and environment, and make a positive impact to both you and the island with your visit. Oʻahu, known as "The Gathering Place" is the third largest of the Hawaiian Islands and home to Honolulu, the state capital. We hope that this page serves as a valuable resource in helping you learn about what our de

stination has to offer, as well as connecting you with others around the world who are just as passionate about the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu. Most of all, we want this to be about you and your connection with our island. We invite you to share, engage, and converse with us and the rest of the community! We have a few simple guidelines we humbly ask you to follow when engaging with the community. Here are some ideas on the types of content that would be appropriate to share on the Oʻahu page:
-Your fantastic Oʻahu photos, videos, and stories...we absolutely love what we've seen so far! Please keep in mind that we occasionally re-share some of these photos to our Timeline.
- Your favorite places to go and things to do when you're in Oʻahu. Residents, feel free to share your favorite local hangouts.
- Hawaiʻi-themed events that may be happening elsewhere around the world.
- Posts about your upcoming, current, or past vacation in Oʻahu.
- Questions and requests for advice from others for your Oʻahu vacation.
- Content and links to your favorite blogs and other websites relating to Oʻahu as a vacation destination. Content that would not be appropriate on the Oʻahu page include:
- Posts that are commercial in nature (e.g., advertisements)
- Spam.
- Politically-driven content such as posts about elected officials or prospective political candidates. This also includes content/links to any specific political cause or legislation, regardless of point of view.
- Content that does not show proper respect or consideration for others.
- Content that may be considered likely to offend or provoke others.
- Content that promotes anything illegal.
- Content that may violate others' privacy. Although we don't foresee this happening much, we do reserve the right to remove any posts or comments at any time, for any reason, in order to keep this page relevant to and appropriate for the community as a whole. Mahalo (Thank you) for considering these guidelines. We hope you find our Facebook content not only insightful...but fun! Welcome to the community. Aloha!

It's the most wonderful time of the year... whale watching season!

From December through May, many species of whale, such as the koholā (Humpback), are frolicking off the shores of the Hawaiian Islands. Koholā are endangered and federal law mandates coming no closer than 100 yards to a whale. Make sure to admire our majestic friends from a distance during these months! 🐋

No kind deed has ever lacked its reward.

This proverb reflects the cultural value of generosity and interconnectedness. Acts of kindness, rooted in aloha, are seen as strengthening relationships and bringing blessings to both the giver and the receiver. In Hawaiʻi, it is believed that kindness creates a ripple effect, fostering collective well-being.

Wai, fresh water, is the source of life and the physical manifestation of the god Kāne.

No one had ownership over water in traditional society, and laws were strictly enforced in management of this precious resource. Ahupua‘a, traditional land divisions from mountain to ocean, centered on the wai flowing from waterfalls, to the streams and rivers, to taro patches, fishponds, and then finally to the ocean.

The understanding that there was no life without wai guided the daily decisions and communal direction of those that lived in the ahupua‘a. The word for wealth, is waiwai, leading one to understand that the abundance of wai is the foundation of life.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of Veterans Day, a significant milestone to honor and reflect on the courage and sacrifices of our nation's service members.

First observed on November 11, 1919, as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I, it was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all U.S. military veterans who have served in wartime and peacetime.

Join the USS Missouri Memorial Association at Pearl Harbor on November 11 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for a sunset ceremony paying tribute to our Veterans and their sacrifices. More details can be found on ussmissouri.org.
