We were able to take a group from Heartland Travel Adventures, LLC to a tour of Underground Kansas yesterday! We went to Strataca (KS Underground Salt Museum), The Historic Wolf Hotel & The Ellinwood Underground, and the Atlas Ad Astra - Missile Silo!
We also had a DELICIOUS lunch at the new 10-39 Cafe in Ellinwood and grabbed some fantastic meat sticks at Ellinwood Packing Plant, Inc. for an afternoon snack!
It was a great day!!

We debated weighing in on the KS license plate controversy, but this plate is too good not to share! As you all know, we love Kansas! And THIS license plate shows that we are an amazing state. Incredible artwork. Even if it’s made like a special license plate, I’d buy that!!

So I was a little late to the party.
Wasn't able to get it finished in the short timeframe for submitting but I thought I would share it anyway. I wanted to include just a few of the things that make Kansas great. The rolling flint hills, the state flower, the capital statue, the plains(and wheat) of course, the Monument Rocks in Lewis and of course the great American Bison.

Sorry I got behind on my posting! Just got back from Atchison! Final stops in Atchison were the Evah C. Cray Historical Home Museum, the Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum, and the earthwork of Amelia.
It was an incredible day! Great people, great food, great history, great fun!!

After lunch we checked out the AMAZING new Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum!! Absolutely incredible. Our explorers said that it is great for kids but more importantly, great for bringing out the kids in us! Extremely well done!!

We had a great tour of Atchison at the county museum and on the trolley tour! We also got to go inside the Benedictine Abbey; absolutely beautiful!

One of the hidden gems of Kansas Highway 4 is the Saint Joseph The Woodworker Shrine just south of Valley Falls. Such a beautiful testament to the craftsmanship and beauty of the area.

We are on a Atchison Day Trip with Heartland Travel Adventures, LLC!!
It was great taking around a group from Shepherd's Center Topeka Kansas on an Eisenhower Tour! We explored the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum and boyhood to learn about the great man. Then we had lunch at Ikes Place Bar and Grill; very yummy! We were joined by Julie Roller Weeks to talk about all the exciting things at Visit Abilene Kansas. We explored the Eisenhower family heritage at the Belle Springs Cemetery and at the Hope Community Museum. Awesome day exploring his life and heritage!
We had an amazing time taking residents from Wesley Towers to Abilene Kansas! We explored the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum and boyhood home, ate a terrific lunch at M&R GRILL, toured the Historic Seelye Mansion, had a driving tour of the Heritage Homes Association of Abilene, Kansas, enjoyed an ice cream snack at Midwest Snow Cones and Creamery, and bought chocolate for the road from Russell Stover! I love taking this group around!
Very neat!! Very excited for the 1st Infantry Division Museum to reopen!
Greensburg did not disappoint! We loved going to the The Big Well Museum and then got cold drinks and ice cream at the Kiowa County Historical Museum and Soda Fountain! Greensburg has treated us very well! 🙂

We had a terrific lunch at the Crazy Mule Restaurant and Catering in Greensburg! I had the chicken fried steak buffet! Delicious and I was very full after.

We were able to explore the amazing world of M.T. Liggett Art Environment! So unique and worth a stop! The docents there were absolutely hospitable and answered all our questions about MT!

We ended the day at the Boot Hill Museum! We explored their new INCREDIBLE museum. Wow! They have done a great job with the exhibits. Then we got to see the gunfight in all its glory. For supper, we ate there too and had a fine classic roast beef dinner! To top the night off, we watched the Long Branch Saloon Variety Show in their BRAND NEW theater! Also, wow! What a great day! Tomorrow we will be exploring more of Dodge and then heading to Mullinville and Greensburg. See you on the road tomorrow!

After Fort Larned, we got the heck into Dodge! Our first stop was the Home of Stone Museum - Mueller-Schmidt House in Dodge City. Such an incredible piece of history! Our docent was incredibly knowledgeable and gave a great tour. Definitely stop here while in Dodge!

After Pawnee Rock, we headed to Fort Larned National Historic Site. Such an amazing place to explore. Their updated exhibits really help you understand the story of the soldiers and the history of the area. We also got a great guided tour!

We are on our very first over night trip with Heartland Travel Adventures, LLC!! We are heading to Dodge City, but hitting up lots of places on the way!
Our first stop is the Geneseo City Museum. What an awesome stop! Great information about the town but also of the collection of UFO material. Cowboy Jim, and others, have been great hosts!
We made it to 4000 followers!!! Thank you all so much! I am so incredibly thankful. This journey is one of a kind and anyone I can share my home state of Kansas with, is a win in my book. 🙂

Today was the BOMB on the B-29 Tour! We toured B-29 Doc in Wichita, the B-29 Museum in Pratt, the B-29 Memorial in Great Bend, and the Barton County Historical Society Museum and Village in Great Bend where we toured the exhibit on the B-29 and the Lustron Home; with a delicious lunch at Tiger Town Pizza. We also had a bonus, final stop at Ellinwood Packing Plant, Inc. for snacks.
Thank you to all my explorers and if you want to do this tour because of all the great pics, we WILL be doing it sometime next summer! Let us know if you are interested!! Check out our previous FB posts for more pictures and info on each stop we went to today. 🙂
We had a bonus location on the B-29 Tour today! Our last stop before we headed back to McPherson was for snacks at the amazing Ellinwood Packing Plant, Inc. We had a couple flavors of meat sticks and some smoked cheeses! Annette Troyer also gave us a great tour of the place. Thank you for opening up your great store and plant!!
Great Bend was so incredibly hospitable to our B-29 Tour. We went out to the B-29 Memorial and got a great tour of the former base. We even got to go into the historic hangar! Driving the bus on the runway was a treat. After we checked out the historic Norden Bombsight Vaults at the airport, we headed to the Barton County Historical Society Museum and Village to check out their very well done exhibit on the B-29’s. One of the museum workers grandson was dressed up in WW2 uniform and gave us a tour. 🙂. Before we left the museum, we checked out the Lustron Home, which many WW2 veterans bought to have affordable housing. Before leaving Great Bend, we visited their beautiful mural commemorating the bombers history in the city. Such a historic place!
