At sunset on the East Coast, most of the models gave Kamala Harris a good chance to become the first woman President of the United States. By the time polls closed out West, just a few hours later, she looked like she might be lucky to win any swing state at all. There are still votes left to count, but virtually every corner of the country, and nearly every demographic group, has swung toward Donald Trump.

Trump did not run a moderate campaign but an extreme one, and yet, he is on track to win a decisive majority, with a more diverse coalition than he has had before. “We can look forward to the next four years with a lot of worry,” Benjamin Wallace-Wells notes. “If, as now looks likely, Trump wins the Presidency, his party will be unified behind him, and the guardrails will be off.” Wallace-Wells writes about the dawning of a new era of Trump: https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/Unayg1

ProPAC Hypocrisy and Lack of Transparency

I am reaching out today to address the recent post on the Horseshoe Bend Truth Bomb page.

The poster purportedly “held onto” information regarding the Spencer Pavilion bids, only to release it later in an attempt to cast a shadow over our city’s processes.

Such an approach is not only counterproductive but hypocritical, especially from a platform that claims to champion transparency and community improvement.

The writer suggests they “saved” this information, which raises an important question: Why withhold facts that could contribute to a constructive dialogue about our community’s projects?

Transparency is a two-way street, and holding information back, only to weaponize it later, does not foster trust—it erodes it.

If this individual or group truly cared about bettering Horseshoe Bend, why not bring any concerns forward at the time?

Such an approach feels less like a call for accountability and more like a calculated attempt to damage reputations.

Finally, the post’s call to “clean the swamp” at City Hall by targeting specific individuals based on unfounded claims reflects the same kind of closed-door politicking it claims to condemn.

Those who demand transparency should be the first to demonstrate it through their actions.

Want an example of why the PAC is bad news? They put one in your mailbox.

Does this piece of pac propaganda do anything to bring the community together? NO.

Hypocrisy and Heavy Handed Divisive Rhetoric is a problem.

Divisive Rhetoric:

1. Us vs. Them Mentality: The flyer frames Mayor DeLair and the “six city servants” as adversaries who are supposedly “threatening the fabric” of the community. This language creates an “us vs. them” dynamic that polarizes the community instead of fostering constructive dialogue. Such rhetoric can deepen divisions and discourage meaningful discussions about how to improve the city.
2. Demonizing Language: Words like “dictator-like” and “micro-manager” are inflammatory and aim to evoke strong negative emotions rather than focusing on specific issues or policy differences. This tactic distracts from any legitimate criticisms and instead attacks individuals’ character, furthering a culture of negativity.
3. Fear-Mongering: The flyer suggests that the actions of the mayor and the six officials have created an atmosphere of fear where citizens are “demonized for having differing opinions.” By making this claim without concrete examples, it uses fear as a tool to sway public opinion rather than presenting factual arguments.
4. Blame for Community Division: The flyer states that the city has become “more divided than it ever has been” since January 1, 2023, attributing this entirely to the actions of the mayor and the officials mentioned. This ignores the role of the PAC itself in creating division through its own antagonistic messaging, which fuels discord rather than proposing collaborative solutions.

Hypocrisy:

1. Criticizing “Micro-Management” While Supporting Heavy-Handed Tactics: The flyer accuses Mayor DeLair of having a “dictator-like” approach, yet the PAC supports measures that could be seen as heavy-handed themselves, such as calling for sweeping changes without clear alternatives or solutions. It’s inconsistent to accuse others of being overly controlling while advocating for equally rigid stances.
2. Claiming to Support Business While Undermining Efforts to Improve the City: The flyer criticizes projects like the pavilion and initiatives to address city amenities, framing them as negative. However, investing in community infrastructure is often essential for fostering economic growth and business opportunities. If the PAC claims to support local businesses, it should recognize that improvements in public amenities can benefit the business environment rather than deride them as “money pit eyesores.”
3. Attacking Non-Residents’ Influence While Embracing Broader Support for Their Own Agenda: The flyer criticizes the mayor for “allowing non-residents to determine what is best for our city.” Yet, PACs frequently seek support from various stakeholders, not all of whom may be residents of Horseshoe Bend. It is hypocritical to reject outside input selectively while likely benefiting from external support or influence.
4. Criticizing Legal Actions While Engaging in Litigious Behavior: The accusation that Mayor DeLair “conspired with the plaintiff” in a lawsuit is ironic given the PAC’s own involvement in legal battles and contentious community disputes. If the PAC members are participating in or supporting litigation to further their goals, it undermines their criticism of others doing the same.

Overall Critique:

The flyer heavily relies on divisive language, blame-shifting, and fear tactics to rally support against the current administration, rather than offering constructive solutions or engaging in good-faith dialogue about the issues facing Horseshoe Bend. By vilifying opponents and using inflammatory language, it risks alienating potential allies and worsening community tensions, rather than addressing problems in a way that fosters unity and progress.

The hypocrisy in accusing the city officials of behaviors while engaging in similar tactics themselves further weakens the credibility of the arguments presented. If the goal is to bring about positive change, the approach should focus more on building bridges, proposing viable solutions, and working collaboratively rather than fueling division.
