📌 Many museums around the world contain artifacts that were stolen or taken by force from their countries of origin during colonial rule or looted during war.
🤔Do you think museums should have the right to keep and display those objects?
💔As an African, I feel very strongly about this issue. Why? Because currently European and North American museums and collections hold more than 90% of all African arts! Imagine!!!
🌍90% of African art is currently outside the continent!
⚠️Here are the main reasons why you shouldn’t support museums with looted artifacts and advocate for those artifacts to be repatriated (returned)!
1️⃣ It’s morally correct. Why are countries allowed to financially benefit from stolen/looted artifacts? Especially when those artifacts belong to poor, third-world countries?
2️⃣These artifacts hold symbolic historical and cultural roots in their creations and must be repatriated in order to honour those roots and the people who have evolved from them.
3️⃣ To not return objects stolen under colonialist regimes is to perpetuate colonialist ideologies that perceived colonized peoples as inherently inferior.
4️⃣ Museums with international collections are located in the Global North, places which are expensive to visit and therefore not somewhere most of the world can go to see art.

We all love options but most of the time we don’t wear the options or the actual outfits we were going to wear. So now we have options and planned outfits we didn’t wear.

Typically, you have to PAY extra for a checked bag. By packing less you can SAVE money & time. How many new outfits did you purchase just for your trip that you didn’t even wear?

When you pack a carry on bag you save time. Imagine this: you just landed at your destination and the bags have not come out in baggage claim. Let’s say you have waited over 1 hr which becomes 2 hrs. There’s no actual guarantee when your bag will arrive.”

Lost bags, delayed bags and stolen items. There is less of a chance of having a lost, delayed or stolen bag because you keep your bag with you at all times.

Personal item baggage can be larger than you think and can hold all of your toiletry items (makeup, feminine products, medicine electronics etc). Your carry on bag can be used for your outfits to pack 2-4 outfits per day.

IF you are in Brownsville or McAllen Texas and get the desire to visit Mexico you can take the Veteran’s memorial bridge by Foot or car. We walked over because there is a possibility to get caught in traffic with a vehicle for 2 hours.
We parked our car at the parking lot for $2, there was plenty of parking. The payment was $1 USD to cross over and no identification was needed.
As soon as you cross the Rio Grande River, there is an abrupt change.
Families are under Bridge with long sticks that are attached to cut out water-bottles pleading for money. Children are even climbing up onto the bridge; it’s heartbreaking.
Once you step off the bridge there are places to buy trinkets, hangs made jewelry, a lot of pharmacies, food tents with authentic food and plenty of dentists. ( I got a deep cleaning and teeth whitening for $250 USD; the most gentlest dentist ever)
The culture is Rich and did not feel endanger .. I was warned not to go. I went with a few to be safe.
To enter back into the US there was a fee of .25c and you need to show a government issued Identification.
