💡 Approximately 117,000 giraffe remain in the wild 🐾.
💡 In 2016, giraffes became listed as “Vulnerable to Extinction ❌” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
💡 There are 4️⃣ distinct species — 1) Northern Giraffe, 2) Southern Giraffe, 3) Reticulated Giraffe & 4) Masai Giraffe.
💡 Just like human fingerprints 👋, no two giraffe have the same coat pattern 🟤.
💡 The giraffe is the tallest ⬆️ mammal in the world; even newborn giraffe are taller than most humans.
💡 In the last 300 years, giraffes have lost almost 90% of their natural habitat 🌳.
💡 Giraffe numbers have plummeted by 30% over the last 35 years alone 📉.
This year the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, initiator of this holiday / event, has launched their “Adopt-A-Giraffe Program” ❤️, allowing you to follow the lives of a few selected desert-dwelling giraffe in Namibia’s 🇳🇦 remote Northwest next to the iconic Etosha National Park. A symbolic giraffe adoption supports multiple giraffe conservation projects throughout Africa, including the return of many giraffe to their original habitat 🙏. As #WorldRhinoDay occurred recently, we are taking a moment to highlight 🌟 these lovable creatures for this #WildlifeWednesday 🐾. The two species found in both southern & east Africa 🌍 are the white & black rhino 🦏, which you can potentially spot 👀 while on safari 🙌. In response to the current poaching criss ❌ that began in 2008 as demand for their horn increased, an abundance of incredible impact work is being done throughout the continent to fight back & save the species 💪 for future generations to come 🙏💫.
