Banteay Srei was built in the tenth century as a Hindu temple to honor the god Shiva.
It is noted for its intricately carved sandstone-relief sculptures, and is one of nearly a thousand temples near Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Angkor Wat is still an active Buddhist temple, and there is a large monastery adjacent to the site.
