"Man's domination of nature"
When will it stop?
I'm tired of our town and county officials granting approval to Greedy developers, who don't even live in area, the right to destroy nature and defy the wishes of our community residents. The lack of respect for the habitat of our animals and plant life needs to be addressed and stopped. Please donate to the Summit Lake Conservation Group and help Philmont's residents save this beautiful nature retreat!

VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: After lengthy discussions with leaders from both the Lives of Intentionally Raised Pets Association (LIRPA) and the Society for Lifting Our Own Furry-friends (SLOOF), Walkway Over the Hudson is instituting new mandatory guidelines for how pets and pet owners use the Walkway. Effective April 1, 2019, all pets must be carried across the length of the 1.28 mile span. For safety, security, aesthetics, and comfort, no paws may make contact with the Walkway’s concrete surface at any time.

Pets may be placed in strollers provided they have six wheels or more. Additionally, pets may be carried in any bag not made out of the following fabrics: silk, nylon, taffeta, or burlap.

This change is being made for three reasons. First, direct feedback we have received from pets in the Hudson Valley indicates that the Walkway’s concrete surface is taxing on their bare feet, and causing them to develop serious puppy bunions. When left untreated, puppy bunions can easily escalate into canine plantar fasciitis. Second, LIRPA has informed us of the direct correlation between a human carrying their pet and the happiness of that pet. Every 100 yards a pet is physically carried leads to a 10% increase in the pet happiness index, as measured by the Global Pet Happiness Coalition (more information is available online at whyyoushouldcarryyourpet.com). Third, with some pets weighing up to and exceeding 100 pounds, carrying pets is wonderful exercise, and 6 out of 14 licensed fitness professionals probably recommend it as part of a balanced workout plan.

We thank you for your future compliance with our policy, and wish you a very happy April Fools Day. If you love this joke, the Walkway, and your furry friend - pet memberships are available (no fooling!) at join.walkway.org.
