Join cyclists of all ages and abilities in Humboldt, Kansas as we celebrate the start of the holiday season and reconnect with the pure joy of riding a bike! This Black Friday, gather your friends, neighbors, relatives and church, club and organization members and choose a healthy activity to help burn off some holiday meal calories, and start your New Year's resolution early to get active! day November 26, 2021, from 5-7 pm in Humboldt, cyclists (and pedestrians, and scooters, and trikes!) engage in a skating rink-rink style ride around Humboldt's Christmas decorated historic square and bandstand. The ride course is separated from vehicle traffic so riders can more safely concentrate on socializing as they ride, and less experienced and less confident riders can ride without the stress of vehicle traffic. This is NOT a competition, so ride around as many times, or as few times, as YOU wish, and at your own pace. It's late November, so dress for warmth and style and not for speed. Decorate your bike with festive lights; wear your ugliest Christmas sweater; mount your reindeer antlers and participate in a growing tradition you'll remember and want to do again next year. Arrive early in the day to enjoy all Humboldt has to offer and learn what's soon coming to plan a return trip. Visit Humboldt's growing downtown merchants, the South Wind Rail Trail and Base Camp.

SUCCESS! Once again the volunteer force in Humboldt, Kansas went above and beyond in their effort to host a great event. Bike Around Humboldt's Holiday Square was a blast with improved lane blockades, more food choices, an improved holiday music mix, and more lighted displays.

A big turnout of people of all ages made it a festive event. Lovely weather, clear and cold with a growing moonn that rose as the sun went down added to the magic.

Humboldt Has It worked to promote and manage the event and they did a great job. Humboldt citizens are fortunate to have such a great humble group, eager to serve. Thanks again for another wonderful memory.

Management would like to remind readers of its original vision for this beloved growing event. The idea for the cycling aspect of Bicycle Around Humboldt's Holiday Square was based upon the model of a skating rink; ice or roller; where cyclists find a facility with an open and closing time to complete as many laps around the short circuit as they wish, starting and ending as many times as they wish, whenever they wish, within the confines of the open and closing time.

The cycling course is closed to vehicle traffic and completes one city block of right turns surrounding Humboldt's historic town square and bandstand, impressively decorated for the holidays. Cyclists may enter and exit the cycle course at any point along its one block circuit, and the entire historic square and all participants are kept easily within view.

In addition to the cycling aspect resembling a skating rink, the social aspect of Bicycle Around Humboldt's Holiday Square was to resemble the friends, couples, and families dressed for warmth and style as they skate around the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center.

Bicycle Around Humboldt's Holiday Square was to be an event for adults, just as much as children.

Bicycle Around Humboldt's Holiday Square was meant for comfortable bicycles, not performance bicycles.

Dress as if you plan to ice skate in NYC around the Rockefeller tree.

Dress for warmth and because your clothes make you feel and look good.

Bring and ride that slow, beach cruiser bike that's been gathering dust.

Bring a friend or partner and make a lasting memory that can evolve into an annual event.

Take a break from your bike and check out Humboldt's emerging downtown for food, drinks, and gift shopping.

Burn off some Thanksgiving calories and stress on the saddle of a bicycle.

Spot and say "Hi!" to the dreamer in long braids on his bike, whose vision brought this event to life.

Mark your calender for Black Friday 2024 and plan to attend Bicycle Around Humboldt's Holiday Square next year, too.
