They may seem like just a playful duo but they work around the clock fighting off coyotes, opossums, and even keeping the resident bobcat from venturing onto their turf- keeping our herd, chickens, and even us humans safe 24/7— and all they ask for in return is food, a herd to call their own and a little love!

Our LGD’s are from a newer breed “Karakachan” - which is one of the more recent breeds imported from the Bulgarian mountains to the US. Chosen for import after centuries of working alongside the nomadic peoples who relied on their Karakachans as integral to their way of life.
Fierce enough to fight off wolves, instinctual as any protector or herd animal, accustomed to extreme climate shifts, ~and~ trusted with kids.
Most farms allow several Ks to run as a herd but we opted for a working pair in each zone of the property based primarily on which personalities were most suited for a particular breed among the varied animals on the farm.
Thank you for your continued respect of the “Beware of Dog” signs. Though they may appreciate cuddles after we’ve signaled to the guardians that a visitor is “approved,” these aren’t pets! #fearsome cuties
