As so many are struggling to find safety and stability here in North Carolina, across the country, and around the world, as grief and noise persist, we are holding tight to what feels most true: one another, the space and skills we have to share, and our hopes for a beautiful future together. Back from a sweet city Christmas and preparing to welcome the new year with all of you. 🎓 Proud to share we now have a Certified Master Gardener on staff! Congrats to Brendan for completing his 40-hour training with and making the commitment to serve as a volunteer to promote a healthy and sustainable environment.

🌿 Any moment of horticultural beauty at Hawkins Loop is thanks to Brendan’s imagination, research, thoughtfulness, care, labor, and patience - which sometimes means leaving something alone to run its natural course, or digging deep in driving rain to redirect irrigation flows. He does it all so well, and we are so grateful to enjoy the results together with our guests.

There is so much hurt, and so many ways to help. Our family started by setting up a recurring monthly cash donation to - a vital source of health and dignity to thousands of families throughout Western North Carolina. We are making progress in determining new ways in which our property can serve those displaced by Helene, support future fundraising efforts for the region, and welcome those in need of nature’s healing.

And… If you have been moved by the images and stories of community care in recent weeks, please know there are candidates on your ballot who embody the best of public service day in, day out — we can choose leaders who will show up for us with the same honesty and compassion that millions of regular folks are demonstrating in the face of these extraordinary disasters. There is still plenty of time to learn more about every race, make your plan to vote, and encourage others to do the same.

Big thanks to our Person County community for the support!

That's right! The good news keeps on coming! We are so excited to tell you that The Land at Hawkins Loop, in Hurdle Mills, is the star of this episode of the Duke Energy Small Business Grant series!

In conjunction with Piedmont Community College, we were able to award a total of $50,000 to 22 local businesses! After receiving $2,500, owners Kat and Brendan Love expressed their gratitude saying "Time in nature is a powerful way to improve our physical health, mental health, social connections, and creativity. This grant has allowed us to make our walking and biking trails more accessible for guests of all ages and abilities to enjoy. Working with Furniture Mart to purchase Polywood outdoor furniture was the perfect way to reinvest the funding in our local community and celebrate the "salvage and repurpose" spirit that has guided The Land at Hawkins Loop since Day 1."

What better way to honor generosity than to deliver it back into the community which inspires said generosity? We are so honored to continue to be part of this effort to spread further prosperity and success to our local businesses and can't wait to continue spreading more good news! Stay tuned!
