"When you’re in your twenties, someone once wrote, you live to please other people. When you’re in your thirties, you get tired of trying to please others, so you get miffed with them for making you worry about it. When you’re in your forties, you realize nobody was thinking about you anyway.

We are not the passive victim of others’ opinions. Their opinions are powerless until we validate them."
John ortberg

-- whether good or bad, once we validate peoples opinions over God's Word we create a dependency on those opinions and give people power they should not have

I heard in my Soirit that 'birds of a feather flock together" the question are you an eagle or a vulture; a dove or a pigeon? The Spirit will gather the eagles and the doves or his 'birds of PRAY" and the enemy will gather his vultures and his birds of PREY. Those who learn to wait upon the lord will find others who also have learned to wait upon him. The impatient will attract the impatient. The discouraged will attract the discouraged. But those who wait upon the Lord SHALL renew their strength and they will mount up on wings of eagles and shall run and not grow weary and walk and not faint. Waiting on the Lord may require some measure of will power to command your own soul to be still within you but as you do this and you pour your heart out (even if in total silence), you will find a new rest and strength to form your day rather than be conformed to it and all of its circumstances that await you and instead be conformed to Christ In you!

"The economy of the kingdom of God is quite simple. Every new step in the kingdom costs US everything we have gained to date. Every new step may cost usall the reputation and security we have accumulated to that
point. The disciple is always ready to take the next step.
If there is anything that characterizes Christian maturity,
itis the willingness to become a beginner again for Jesus
Christ. It ls the willingness to put our hand in His and say,
I'm scared half to death, but I'll go with you, Lord. I'll risk everything to go with you. You are the pearl of great
price.
John Wimber, "Utter Obedience"

01/22/2024

"Social media and television have educated us beyond our obedience. The problem is not lack of information but lack of obedience. But here is the biblical model for growth: “The more you know Him, the more you love Him. The more you love Him, the more you obey Him. The more you obey Him, the more He manifests Himself to you.”

"When a rabbi tells a story, he speaks to the heart first and the head second. Traditionally, Western ways of thinking tend to speak to the head first and the heart second."....
and here I think inlays the problem between an "either" "eastern" or a "western" mindset because to the eastern mind, the gospel is an offense and to a western mind it is foolishness
◄ 1 Corinthians 1:23 ►
but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

Both parties miss the real Party and the Real Jesus for all of our cultrual presuppositions that get in the way of knowing and rediscovering a Jesus that transcends our own understanding, otherwise well just be worshipping another Jesus we probably created in our own image ?

01/20/2024

The Eastern mind loves riddles and is fond of mystery. On the contrary, the Western theologian explains much and understands little. The Eastern mindset of Jewish theology reveres God and wonders at his unexplainable mysteries. All attempts to systematize God fall short. If we are to understand God like an Eastern Jew would have, we must stand in amazement. We should wonder in awe. -The forgotten Jesus, robby Gallaty

A friend on Facebook had a simple post about su***de and his contention that su***de is not the unforgivable sin and used Sampson as an example. I saw lots of affirming comments as well which would be comforting to me as well at a certain level until you consoder the word of God and I think you find the idea of su***de probably way more nuanced than either side of the debate may consider? I would say I agree that su***de in itself is not unforgivable but what it does is seals one's fate in the spiritual condition they leave this life in and in that sense if you gave up to soon, it could be the unforgivable sin by which any chance of redemption has passed. My reply to his post is below , what do you think? Is it more black and white or is it even more gray than I posit?

-- Well, there may still be "Hell" to pay beyond the grave when we see things much more clearly than we do now. While it likely is not an unforgivable sin, it does finalize the state of what you did with your life to that point. If one dies alienated and in rebellion to Gods offer of life then while it could have been forgiven by the blood, if it was not, then they just take the filthy rags of self righteouness with them and we know those certainly will not survive the firey final testing of ones soul to see what may be of any eternal value. I just don't want to leave it out there, now that su***de is so rampant and seems to be the go to alternative to those who have no hope or at least THINK they have no hope, and that it's just the easiest and most convenient solution to "end" ones suffering. Also, I think there is a difference between one throwing themselves on a gr***de and the person whose wife just left them for another man but doesnt feel they have it in them to take care of the kids who desperately needed him (i cant judge such a man, because i havent been in his shoes, thankfully, but i would certainly hope i would have another brother come to me with a new perpective and talk me out of such a final decision). With countries like Canada offering full throated endorsements and effectively taking the "pain" of su***de out of the equation, I certainly do not want to reduce the question of su***de to that of "well, don't feel judged because I don't think su***de is terminal anyway", at least in the spiritual sense. The hell to pay i think is not about the hot BBQ rotisserie place we could spend eternity in, but the 1 cor 3:12-15 sense of all the wood hay and stubble of all of our narcissistic good deeds being tried by fire with only the faithful witness of the cross to show for it, then that person will make it, but only as one whose f***y is still smoking as they pass through that final purification process to see what they get to take with them and what ceases to exist. The Hell to pay is to realize what you left on the table because you simply could not endure to the end. I am no one to judge anyone, but I think the question of su***de is far more nuanced than just who did it or did not do it. I know that was going beyond your initial premise (name of person posting), which I agree with you, but would simply say we must do everything we can to discourage su***de because we want people to endure to the end and receive the crown that awaits them? Who knows how many are in heaven after su***de simply because of the faithful witness of the blood of Jesus to show for it but with no treasure or crowns they were created in Christ to do before the foundation of the earth?

Amazing what you can see when you just "Look-up! Idaho Falls". I saw this in the morning sky right after dropping my beautiful bride off at Idaho 'heart'. God is getting ready to do heart surgery on Idaho Falls and I pray that we are ready for the day of our visitation and that we receive the new wine skins that are strong enough to hold the new wine God wants to pour into us. Every single denomination, church and individual are being offered a new wineskin or a new way of thinking about what it is to be The Church of Jesus Christ of "present day Saints" and yes this is a call for our friends and family in the LDS church to catch the vision and to put right relationship with Jesus Christ ahead of our individual ideas of "right" theology. Theology matters but Jesus matters most. The call is to seek FIRST the kingdom of God as of first and greatest importance and the head of that Kingdom is the crucified and risen Jesus Christ and he shall add all of these other things to you! And lest we think it is only that "other denomination" that has to get straight with God, be careful because you may miss the time of his visitation because you weren't willing to lay down your old sacred cows that keep you divided from the rest of the body of Christ. I saw this as a type of sign in the skies and I sensed God was saying his eye is on Idaho Falls and when Idaho 'falls' (on our knees in surrender to Him) then He shall arise and lift us up as we lookup to him for our redemption draws nigh. I also thought of Matthew 6:22-23 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!". Is your eye single on Him? All we have to do is turn our eyes singularly to Jesus and look full into his beautiful face and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace. He is piercing the darkness so that he might be the light that powers Eastern Idaho.

Just sitting with the Lord and proverbs 15:16 came to mind. The Lord is FAR from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous and I had this image of what that might look like from God's perspective. Maybe you've had the same image I have held of that passage that God hates the wicked so much that he distances himself as much as he can because he cannot stand their presence..... or could my really awful artistic rendering be have something to say about our interpretation? Which do you think is right or closer to right when you consoder the true nature of God?. Are the wicked so far from God because he wants so little to do with them or is he closer than they can perceive because they are running away from him as he is running after them? If we are facing away from Jesus , he seems an eternity away , but is God really that far away or is he like CS Lewis' hound of heaven who is ever on our heals, not to devour us but to save us? All it takes for the wicked to become the righteous is to stop, turn around and receive the finished work of the cross and God will immediately regard their prayers because he hears the prayers of the righteous. Not the self righteous but those who have received the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus? Maybe you feel God is far from you in this season but then again maybe he's closer than you imagine and just need to stop and ask him where he can be found and he will reveal it to you and you can decide if you want the love, peace and joy that comes in turning to him or he will honor your desire to continue to chase the darkness within you.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I heard of Pastor Anthony Manzanares' passing early this morning into the hands of Jesus. If anyone deserved to live a long, healthy and vibrant life it was him. I have met few men with the kind of metal he was made of. He never conceded even an inch of his life without the greatest of fights for the very precious and dear life that was Pastor Anthony. So many times he had stared death in the face and defiantly chose life. And even today he defiantly stood in opposition to death declaring death where is your sting, grave where is your victory because he had an ace up his sleeve that he threw in deaths face as he was swallowed up in eternal Life! The life his beloved Jesus secured for him 2000 years ago, and with that solemn confession, he knew that while this earthly temple was wasting away he was in fact being renewed in the most important of ways. Even in his bodily suffering he knew something most others who saw him could not perceive and yet were always in a perplexed awe of the peace he seemed to have in circumstances they were certain would have crushed them and ship wrecked their faith. Pastor Anthony knew that as a child of the King he had the keys to the kingdom yet faithfully served as a humble shepherd and a lowly priest at the altar of the Lord along side his royal and priestly bride, Pastor Laura and the many sacrifices they have laid upon the altar have become a fragrant memorial before the Lord as Pastor is received into his eternal dwellings. To Pastor Laura, our hearts are so grieved of his passing and we grieve with you and are here if only to sit with you in your time of mourning but are heartened that are grief is not as the world grieves , yet a sanctified grief that will produce a beautiful harvest of the many seeds you both have sown, even in tears. We are here with you in anyway you need us to be here for you. We are at your disposal if only to run errands for you or clean your house of just to sit with you and we commit to share your burdens in anyway we can. You are such a beloved sister in the Lord and pray that you might be watered by the Lord as you have watered so many of us. We love you and will continue to hold your heart before the Lord that he might heal you completely from the pain of his absence and be that ever present help in times of distress.

We invite you into our new Pentecost series "Empowered" leading up to the celebration of Pentecost. It is an invitation to reconnect with the Third person of the Holy Trinity and the roots of the vineyard movement emerging out of the Jesus revolution. A recent Barna study has revealed a profound ignorance of the third "person" of the Holy Spirit and how so many Christians have lost the concept of Holy Spirit as a person to whom we can have a "personal relationship". Whether our warped understanding of the Holy Spirit's role in our lives was a result of past abuse because uninformed/unscrupulous leaders sought to manipulate God's people to their own purposes or agendas or simply because leaders had very little relationship or understanding of Holy Spirit's purpose and His critical role in the lives of every believer. Or because Holy Spirit was lost in a cloud of academic study that has been rationalized out of the church or because Holy Spirit was too unpredictable whenever he did show up in meetings, that it was just easier to lock Him up in some dark closet in the basement of their hearts, depriving the people of this indispensable resource critical for our spiritual and soulical well being.

It is our desire to Honor the person of the Holy Spirit by letting him out of the closet of our hearts that have remained closed to his presence and influence in our lives. The problem is not Holy Spirit's absence, for he will never leave us or forsake us, but rather it is our lack of awareness of his presence. We believe the empowered Chrisitan life is impossible apart from his continuous and abiding presence in our lives to purify and refine us so that he might also EMPOWER us to do and obey all that Jesus commands us to do! If you would like to join us on the journey of fresh new rediscovery of this ancient path, you can join us at 11 am at 830 Park avenue (Next to Rescue Mission). Feel free to check all of the "baggage" at the door that has been weighing you down in your spiritual walk and know that Holy Spirit is eager to meet with you and give you the kind of baggage full of things you can actually use!

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [a]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Ephesians 5:17-19 Amplified Bible
17 Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is. 18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him. 19 Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, [offering praise by] singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord
