Today marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks that took the lives of nearly 3,000 men, women, and children leaving thousands of families -- and our nation -- reeling from shock, grief, pain & heartbreak beyond imagination.
On this day we have vowed to , let us look back and remember the remarkable courage, beautiful acts of compassion between strangers, and the powerful resilience of the human spirit that guides and lifts us through our darkest of hours.
Let us remember the bravery and selflessness of our first responders who ran into crumbling buildings, blazing fires, and total chaos risking their lives to save others. Many made the ultimate sacrifice that day. We honor you.
Let us remember the countless heroes – pilots, flight attendants, passengers, military, doctors, nurses, Pentagon and World Trade Center workers, animal rescue teams, guide and rescue dogs, by-standers, and ALL who played a part in saving as many lives as possible. We send our deepest gratitude to you, and to those who continue to nurture the healing of those still living with pain and trauma.
Let us remember the spirit of unity that brought us together from all backgrounds & walks of life, united in our common humanity. We reflect on the countless acts of kindness that demonstrate the triumph of love.
We remember those we lost & pray for their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, children, friends & all whose hearts they touched. As we think of the many heart-wrenching goodbye calls made to loved ones, we understand this truth: that in the end, LOVE is all that truly matters. It is our greatest gift, our highest purpose, & the legacy of those we lost.
Through and in it all, we take comfort knowing that the light of the human heart & spirit cannot be extinguished.
