Be on the lookout for nesting sea turtles!

Sea Turtles are Nesting!
Beachgoers can help protect nesting sea turtles by practicing some simple tips.
Female sea turtles leave the ocean to dig nests and lay eggs in the sand, before heading back to the ocean. If you see a sea turtle coming out of the water to nest on the beach, regardless of the time of day, it is critical that you do not disturb them.
Sea turtles, their nests and eggs are protected under state and federal law. It is illegal to disturb or harass them.

How can you help nesting sea turtles?
•“Clear the way at the end of the day” by removing beach furniture and other obstacles and filling any holes dug in the sand, so nesting and hatchling turtles don’t become trapped.
•Avoid disturbing nesting sea turtles by shining lights on them or taking flash photos. It is best to stay at least 20 feet away from sea turtles, their nests, hatchlings and posted areas.
•Report injured, entangled or dead sea turtles, as well as anyone disturbing a sea turtle, to the FWC’s Wildlife Alert Hotline, 1-888-404-3922.
•Correctly dispose of fishing line, to prevent marine life entanglement: MRP.MyFWC.com
