Levant Preceptory

Levant Preceptory Levant Preceptory is an organization of Masonic Knights Templar from the state of Indiana. This adds to the uniqueness of our presentations.
(1)

Levant Preceptory UD is the only degree team in the State of Indiana that confers the Order of the Temple in period Templar dress and is the premiere such organisation in the US. We are strictly a self-funded, all volunteer group, and we welcome all Sir Knights in good standing from Indiana to participate in our activities. We strictly confer the Order of the Temple, using the official ritual and

tactics as approved by the Grand Commandery and the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar of the USA. We dress in medieval period costumes, including chainmail, steel helmets, broadswords and tunics. Any regular, recognized Masonic Knight Templar from Indiana or surrounding states who may be interested in joining our degree team is encouraged to contact our new Director of Work, Sir Knight Carson Smith at [email protected] . We operate under the Charter of R***r Commandery No. 1 by authority of the Grand Commandery of Indiana and the Grand Encampment of the United States. We are dedicated to excellence in the performance of the ritual and tactics for the conferral of the Order of Temple, in a manner that will have the greatest emotional impact upon the candidate. We restrict our performances to no more than twice a year, and highly recommend our participation to be requested to large classes. (We are NOT organized to simply help out a Commandery struggling to knight just one or two candidates. However, we can certainly help recommend Sir Knights who can individually travel to assist in those circumstances.) We have no dues or formal structure. Our fellow knights are, however, required to provide their own period equipment, which is available from several online resources. We can provide that supply information for you upon request. But far more important, our members are expected to learn their parts to perfection in word, delivery, and correct Indiana tactics. Imitation groups are popping up around the country attempting to recreate our success by simply buying period costumes. Anybody can buy clothes and props. That is NOT the key to what we do, and never has been. Costumes are mere stagecraft. The true key is setting a standard of performance that will not be compromised, which is why we attract the very best and most motivated Templar ritualists in the state. If you count yourself as one, we welcome you to take part in our activities.

Despite receiving fairly rotten critical reviews, the History™ Knight Templar miniseries Knightfall turned out to be fabulously successful for the channel, proving once again that there remains an unwavering public interest in timeless notions of brotherhood, chivalry, honor and bravery (along with a little secrecy and slow motion blood spurts from battle wounds). Audiences often tend to confound critics.

March 18th, 2019 marks the 705th anniversary of the death of Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and the Temple of Solomon – better known to history as the Knights Templar. So, Season 2 of the show is set to premiere on March 23rd, 2019, the week of De Molay's death.

The big news is that Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, now strides in as Talus, Landry's new "initiate master," to aid in his reformation and redemption from last season's fall from grace. According to press releases, Talus is "a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades, who survived captivity for 10 years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order." ...[more]

"The warriors are gentler than lambs and fiercer than lions, wedding the mildness of the monk with the valour of the knight, so that it is difficult to decide which to call them: men to adorn the Temple of Solomon with weapons instead of gems, with shields instead of crowns of gold, with saddles and bridles instead of candelabra: eager for victory not fame; for battle not for pomp; who abhor wasteful speech, unnecessary action, unmeasured laughter, gossip and chatter, as they despise all vain things: who, in spite of their being many, live in one house according to one rule, with one soul and one heart." - Bernard of Clairvaux

The long held sacred burial site of Christ, the Aedicule within the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, has been partially restored over the last year after 200 years of non-stop arguing by the three sets of Catholic denominations (Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Roman Catholic) that control the site. After finally shutting up long enough to permit €3.3 project (that included an additional surprising and generous contribution by Jordan's King Abdullah), tourists are once again able to visit this place. It is believed to cover the cave where Jesus was entombed and resurrected.

The curiously distinctive metal scaffolding that surrounded the structure since 1947 when the British welded it in place to "temporarily" stabilize it has finally been removed. So, now the authorities can go right back to squabbling again over such vital articles of faith as who has the right to move a ladder left up against an upper story wall by a workman in the 1800s, and similar issues.

But according to an article in National Geographic about the project, the crumbling structural problems underneath the Aedicule have not yet been addressed, and will continue to deteriorate if more work is not undertaken immediately. One wonders if the three denominations will again ignore the problem until the Israeli authorities again condemn the place and forbid visitors to force their hand, as they did this time.

It's a testament to Christianity's own sectarian madness to note that the key to lock and unlock the Church's exterior doorway has been entrusted to an Islamic Arab family in Jerusalem for centuries, because the Christians themselves have never gotten along well enough to have it.

Jesus wept.

This is a message directed to my fellow Sir Knights who are members of Indiana Knights Templar Commanderies (if you're not among that narrowly focussed group, feel free to completely ignore).

Quite by accident today, I noticed two early 20th century Triennial jewels struck for R***r Commandery #1 were for sale on Ebay. Taking note of the seller's online name, I found to my pleasant surprise that they were being sold as part of a larger collection of Indiana-related Templar jewels owned by our fallen friend and Sir Knight, the late Larry Kaminsky, PGC by his daughter-in-law, Mariah Kaminsky out in Colorado.

Her note to me read, in part:

"Thank you for this message! I am Larry's daughter-in-law, his son's (Jason) wife. We were there when he accepted the great honor of Grand Commander. We miss him so very much & hope that these get into the right hands. Glad to know that these two will! Larry has a huge collection (as I am sure you know) that he passed down to Jason. This is most of it, there are a few things Jason isn't ready to part with just yet. "

Almost all of the jewels are from Indiana Commanderies or Indiana-related events. So, if you have a desire to return a rare jewel to your Commandery's archives, this might be your opportunity. She said she has a few more that she hopes to post tomorrow, but the auction end date for all of the ones currently for sale is fast approaching. I strongly urge you - don't let your history vanish into obscurity.

Today marks the 709th anniversary of the arrest of the Knights Templar on October 13th, 1307. The tale of the Knights Templar is a story with a larger-than life aura of myth, that finished in an abrupt and almost unbelievable tragedy. Founded in 1119 by nine crusading French knights as a tiny band o

Yeah, it's one of THOSE posts from Hodapp.

I wrote the following very long piece about the Knights Templar of the York Rite in the U.S. several years ago, and it became much too long to publish as a magazine piece. So, it vanished into my documents file. But the article I posted yesterday by Sir Knight Carson Smith got me to go and look for it. If you're not a member of the KT, feel free to give it a miss. If you are, go get a cup of coffee and let me give you something to think about.

The BBC website on Friday posted a pictorial tour of the Temple area of London that once belonged to the Knights Templar. Yes, the famous round Temple Church is there with its stone effigies of several Knights. But there is much more to this secluded area that lies hidden away in the heart of the City.

Indiana Freemasons, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Please ensure that your Lodges and groups are aware of this letter.

The Freemasons’ Hall and home to Your Grand Lodge Office is alive and well! We are well on our way to having one of the greatest Masonic Temples in the all of the United States. The Freemasons’ Hall is home to your Indiana Grand Lodge Office, The Masonic Home Foundation Office, one of the greatest Library and Museums in the State and country (dedicated to Freemasonry), The Masonic Society National Office, The Masonic Scholarship Board, the State Office for Indiana DeMolay, the Masonic Relief Board, the Indianapolis York Rite Bodies, consisting of R***r Commandry #1, Indianapolis Council #2 and Indianapolis Chapter #5, seven Blue Lodges and an AMD Council, an Eastern Star Chapter and a DeMolay Chapter.

Freemasons’ Hall has had hundreds of thousands of dollars invested into the building over the last 10 years. The Grand Lodge office was recently renovated, The IMHF offices were completely renovated, new fire escape, new windows, new doors, new dining room and lighting, new kitchen and updated bathrooms, new plumbing from the basement to the third floor, ADA Ramp and accessories, landscaping, fencing, new air conditioning and heating in the Grand Lodge office, new heating coils and new boilers for heating the building.

In short, just to clarify some rumors, the Freemasons’ Hall is here for many years to come and, for what you might have heard, we are not selling, moving, abandoning, leaving, or anything that you might have heard. We have a few million dollars invested into this building and over 107 years of history. Structurally, this building is one of the best built buildings in Downtown Indianapolis, and we are here for the foreseeable future.

Now comes the part we ask for your help! Usually this type of request comes in the form of asking for a check, (although we will accept any donation you send), this request is for your volunteer time and your expertise. We have the need for volunteers. We need skilled and unskilled labor. We have a lot of projects from cleaning, sweeping, landscaping, painting, washing, polishing, to electricians, concrete repair, welders, plumbers, trophies and engraving and repairing, backdrop and artist that can paint large scale paintings, plasterers, to cabinet makers. We are accepting volunteers Monday through Friday, from 08:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and some nights and weekends. To expedite the volunteers, and to ensure that we have materials and jobs for you to perform, we ask only that you coordinate, (especially skilled labor), through Randy Spaulding at his email address at [email protected]

You can always show up, any day, unannounced, it just slows the process down a bit. Starting next week, March 28th, we are looking for volunteers every day. We are cleaning stairs, polishing brass, painting ceilings and walls, and many other projects. We have an immediate need for electricians, plumbers and a concrete finisher. Remember this is volunteer time.

So, for the next two months, we are asking for your help, so that we can get the building shining, before Grand Lodge in May, and to impress upon a potential donor, that his money invested in our building, will be a wise investment. We have been doing this for the last 60 days and, except for the Indianapolis York Rite, most of the volunteers have been from outside the building.

It is time for the members of Freemasons’ Hall to answer the call, and come and help make this building a shining gem in the world of Freemasonry!

Fraternally,
