It’s that time of year again, please be aware of the yellow flies.

Guess who's back? Back again... 😫😫😫

It's yellow fly season in Northwest Florida. Yellow flies are most active during daylight hours and thrive off of the habitats readily available in our area. When they bite, they bite hard, often leaving a red, itchy spot in their wake.

These bites definitely can be painful, but the swelling and/or bite are not usually medical emergencies. However, there is the potential for someone to develop a severe allergic reaction to a yellow fly bite. If you or someone you know is bitten and then begins to experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, severe swelling, and/or severe hives, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

What can you do to prevent a bite? Wear clothing that covers your skin, use repellents, or even set a yellow fly trap. Local mosquito control experts such as South Walton Mosquito District have sticky trap kits that may come in handy for South Walton residents.
