Happy Friday 💫🙌🏼

We wanted to share some of our favorite little fall moments as we approach our next beautiful season in Cuyuna country. The colors change, the air feels nice & cool on our skin, and it’s a time to reflect & re-energize by doing things we love with the people we love.

It’s been a while since we’ve shared some guest reviews, so we thought there’s no time like the present, right?! 😉 We truly have the best guests and could not be more grateful for the opportunity to host such incredible people (& pups too!) 🫶🏼

👉🏼 “The Cuyuna Bunkhouse was exactly what we were looking for and expecting for our short stay! The area is beautiful and the trailheads were close enough to bike to which was great! The secured bike storage in the garage was a nice amenity, however we weren’t at all worried as the area felt very safe and family-friendly.
The house itself was very well styled, cozy, and clean! The kitchen was stocked and met our needs for cooking. The beds being super comfortable was a nice bonus!
Overall, this was the perfect place to stay and we will definitely look to book again for future trips to the Ironton-Crosby area!”

Cuyuna State Recreation Area is awakening after our mild winter this year ☺️

The leaves are coming in and the trails are excited to welcome all the riders. We couldn’t be more grateful for this beautiful area. The mine pit lakes are truly magnificent with their crystal clear water. They are begging for adventurers who may want to try scuba diving, paddle-boarding, kayaking, or canoeing. Soon the water will be warm enough for swimming and summer will be on full display.

When staying at Cuyuna Bunkhouse, guests are a short bike ride to the trails and Miner’s Mountain Rally Center. We provide outdoor games, a bonfire pit, back patio with a table and chairs, bike storage, charcoal grill, and more. We have plenty of room if you would like to bring your boat/ATV. We also accommodate up to 2 pups per stay for a small fee and include water/food bowls and treats. We sleep up to 4 guests on 2 queen beds. We also installed a partial fence on the property last fall and have added mattress toppers to ensure our amazing guests have an extra cozy night of rest after shredding the trails.

Do you know how we got our name?

Cuyuna Bunkhouse got it’s name because the upstairs contains 2 queen beds in one big open space. A bunkhouse is a sleeping quarters for visitors, so it seemed quite fitting!

One thing we love most about booking a short-term vacation rental over a hotel is having access to a kitchen! We love to cook and appreciate that Cuyuna Bunkhouse has all the dishes and utensils we need to make our own meals while we are there. While we love a good balance between going out to eat vs. dining in.

We have a few new followers and thought it would be a good time to reintroduce ourselves! We are a short term rental located in northern Minnesota in a small town called Ironton. The area is known for its beautiful outdoor recreation and cute little shops, bars, restaurants, and more. Our place is a cute little 768 sq ft cabin and is on a 1.5 acre lot just outside of town. Everything in town (including the trails) you can bike to! We sleep up to 4 guests and 2 pups and cannot wait to shred the red once again. Trails are not quite open yet due to the thaw, but we cannot wait to get back out there.

Cuyuna Bunkhouse is a 768 sq ft cabin located in Ironton, MN. We are approximately 2 hours from the Twin Cities making this a perfect place for a quick winter getaway. Here are some fun things to do during the winter in our area:

1) Fat bike the mountain bike trails
2) Snowshoe trails at Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area
3) Try Nordic Skiing
4) Go ice fishing
5) Rent a mobile Sauna during your stay from
6) Relax at the Wing Wellness Medical Spa in Brainard, MN for a massage, Yoga (coming soon), facials, and more
7) Eat, shop, drink, and indulge at one of the many places in Ironton/Crosby
8) Go ice-skating
9) Swim at the local Hallet Center of Crosby
10) Snowmobile the many miles of trails
11) Take a walk
12) Play board games
13) Make a hot cup of complimentary tea, coffee, or hot chocolate
14) Cozy around the campire
15) And if you are fine venturing out a little further, take a trip out to Mount Ski Gull (40 min from CB) for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing

Over the holidays, we received our 100th review on Airbnb and it could not be more fitting that it was from a repeat guest. This is something that we take at the highest honor- to know that someone loved the place so much that they booked another stay with us is truly notable. We want each guest to feel right at home when visiting Cuyuna Bunkhouse, so to hear it directly from guests makes all the hard work worth it to us. Our cozy little cabin and this area are special, and it's amazing that others cherish it just the same as we do. Here are some kind words from recent guests:

"This was our second stay at the Bunkhouse, and it really feels like home away from home. It’s everything you need, and nothing you don’t. As usual, we experienced excellent and proactive communication from the caretakers. The place was super clean and cozy (again). Beds are firm but comfortable, with clean, fresh linens and blankets. Hi 👋🏼 It’s Sam & Megan, owners of Cuyuna Bunkhouse 😊

We are incredibly grateful to each and every guest that has stayed with us since opening in spring 2022. This is our first and only Airbnb, and we strive for guests to feel right at home when staying with us. Our goal when opening Cuyuna Bunkhouse was to share our cute little cabin with others so that they can experience such an incredible area in Minnesota. We both love mountain biking and there are so many people in this town that work hard to make this beautiful place a fun, safe, and memorable experience for all. We have learned so much throughout this entire process of owning a short-term rental and will continue to make things even more special for guests. A fun update that we have is that we installed a huge partial fence on the property. We also have 2 sets of snow shoes for guests to use during the winter months. We cannot wait to see all of the fun guests have during this next season. Don't forget to tag us when sharing your experiences at Cuyuna Country! Also, can you spot all 4 baby pine trees? We can’t wait to watch them grow 🌲

One of our large pine trees on the property reached the end of its life span this summer and we had to take it down. It was a huge bummer, but an opportunity to continue to plant more trees!

When getting CB ready to list on Airbnb, we knew how important design would play having a space the size of ours. Each item in the cabin was thoughtfully measured and placed with function, style, and comfort in mind. Between the faux fur blankets, wood walls, knit rug and more, all of these elements help to bring the outdoors in. It makes you want to cozy up with a warm tea, doesn’t it?

How many mine pit lakes can you spot in this photo? We see 3 👀

Did you know that there are 16 different mine pit lakes? We highly recommend visiting the view point on top of Miners Mountain to try a get a good look at a fair majority of them! It really puts into perspective 😍

This photo was taken yesterday (October 9, 2023) facing the Rally Center beach area. The leaves are changing, the crisp fall weather keeps you cool on the trails, and sunsets are dreamy. We hope you visit soon 🙌🏼 Cuyuna Bunkhouse is less than a mile from the entrance to the park.

Why did we choose the name "Cuyuna Bunkhouse" for our short term rental?

When we purchased our property in December 2021, we thought long and hard about what we should name our Airbnb. Our cabin is only 768 sq ft and was originally built in 1965. It has been completely remodeled to where main-level has the kitchen/living room and the upstairs acts as the sleeping quarters. When we toured the property, we knew we wanted the upstairs to have 2 queen beds and emulate a boutique-hotel experience. With the limited square footage, we knew the space could comfortably accommodate 4 guests. Although we knew we did not want literal bunkbeds, we still thought the term "Bunkhouse" was fitting as it generally translates to a simple sleeping quarters for workers, visitors, or campers, usually with little privacy from others in the space. We wanted our guests to know that the sleep quarters emulates that of a hotel room, but even cozier.

Here is how we describe the upstairs:

Upstairs you will find a large, open bedroom with 2 plush queen beds, a bench with dresser drawers, and a comfortable office nook for two. In the corner of the room, there is a bathroom stocked with toiletries and towels. There is also a laundry area with a stacked washer and dryer, and a clothing bar with hangers. At the top of the stairs, an exterior door leads you to the back deck furnished with a patio table and chairs for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or an adult beverage. When all of the blinds/curtains are open, it almost feels like you are in a tree-house.

We hope our guests enjoy staying just as much as we do ❤️ Fall is coming and we cannot wait to experience the change of seasons!

We thought it might be helpful to answer this question: What is Cuyuna Bunkhouse?

For those of you wondering, we are a boutique-style, tiny cabin located in Ironton, MN. Cuyuna Bunkhouse sleeps up to 4 guests and 2 pups. The property is 1.5 acres in total and is nestled into an area called Irondale Township. We love this location because it’s on the outskirts of town, which adds a bit more privacy/space from immediate neighbors. Guests can easily bike to the mountain bike trails, take a 10 minute walk to downtown Ironton, play disc golf at the near by park, or take a quick car ride to all the things Brainerd, Crosby, and Ironton have to offer.

The property has plenty of room for trailers and toys that you may want to bring as well.

We (Sam & Megan) own the bunkhouse and rent it out on . Our wonderful property managers (Joy & Andrew) are our guests point of contact throughout the entire booking process.

We have many nights available this fall, which happens to be one of our favorite times of year to visit. We love the changing of the leaves, the crisp fall air, and snuggling up in a warm blanket on a cool, fall day.

Our Airbnb is located in Ironton, Minnesota- a historic mining town on the Cuyuna Iron Range. Cuyuna Bunkhouse is inside Irondale Township, a smaller housing community on the outskirts of town. The eastern side of the property provides wonderful wooded views, while the house sits on a more open lot, allowing some distance from immediate neighbors. Upon entering the township, you will be welcomed by scenic wetlands on your right and Morning Side Park to your left (located just 1 block from the bunkhouse). Do you like to disc golf? If so, bring your discs and walk over to Morning Side Park to check out the course!

We recommend exploring both downtown Ironton and Crosby during your stay. Downtown Crosby is less than 2 miles away and is packed full of restaurants, antique & local gift shops, and places to relax with friends/family. Most locations have bike racks incase you would like to bike over. Downtown Ironton is a bit smaller and is walking distance (10 min walk) from the bunkhouse. There are a few restaurants & things that are definitely worth checking out, as well as a Dairy Queen!
