Buckle up Florida! Here we go. .sar is headed up toward the west coast of Florida for Hurricane Milton. Almost packed. Bax and I are done sitting on the sidelines for a while.

This storm is shaping up to be a doozy too, right on the heels of Helene. This is why our team didn’t go to North Carolina. Resources National wide are up there right now, including our National Guard. FEMA is “out of money.” It’s up to us, as people, to take care of one another. A lot of people are already suffering up there.
Helene left her mark on Florida too.

If any of my former/current military, law enforcement, EMS, fire etc… are interested in joining Gulf Search and Rescue, hit me up. We have team members all over the country.

To state the obvious, we will be shut down for the next week. See you then.

Friends in North Florida, and along the west coast, I hope you’re prepared and have an evacuation plan! Looks like this one is gonna be no joke for you all. We are expected to get impacts here too, but thankfully not a direct hit. Please, please, please have an evacuation plan and heed the warnings. This is shaping up to be a big storm.

Helene is big. NHC: "Helene's forecast radii are at the 90th percentile of hurricane size at similar latitudes. Due to the forecast large size of this system, storm surge, wind, and rainfall impacts will extend well away from the center, particularly on the east side. In addition, the fast forward speed while it crosses the coast will likely result in farther inland pe*******on of strong winds over parts of the southeastern United States after landfall." www.spaghettimodels.com

Hey guys, it’s Capt. Zander.

Time for a moment of reality. I have been forced to take a year, and some change, off of work in the last 2 years. By God’s grace, I’ve had some amazing people that have helped fill in for me to keep Lightly Salted Charters out there making memories for people. That said, since our accident on our way up to Lake Charles, in 2020, my life, and Bax’s, have shifted dramatically. It’s not all from that accident, but also a career in EMS, LE, and recent health emergencies (didn’t expect acute appendicitis).

For those that don’t know, Bax and I volunteer during hurricane season with a couple different Search and Rescue teams. That’s what we were going up to Lake Charles, LA for.

Long story short, I’m struggling. I suck at asking for help, and I’m always bound and determined to do it myself and prove the naysayers wrong. God has forced me to take a seat recently, and that’s not an easy thing for me.

I’ve had 2 neck surgeries, a shoulder surgery, and an emergency appendectomy all within a very short time span. Most of my income has been lost due to paying other captains to fill in.
I still have a right ankle that needs to be fixed and another surgery on my left foot.

Lately it’s been a battle. A battle of physical health, and a battle of mental health. A battle to just hold to my faith, and believe that God will carry me through this season. I’m also praying it’s just a season… I am praying that God is preparing me for a season of thriving rather than surviving. And I believe, through faith, that he will. But it all comes in His timing.

Again, I suck at asking for help. But I need it. Especially with 2 more surgeries on the horizon. The bills are piling up, and groceries are definitely not getting cheaper anytime soon.
