Most of the geography that makes up Island Park is a large caldera. A caldera and crater are very similar but a caldera is formed when the land collapses instead of through an explosion or impact. This caldera combined with the high precipitation is what creates the many bodies of water that exist and are enjoyed in Island Park.

30 minutes north of Island Park you'll find yourself a little corner of of paradise at Cliff Lake. It's a bit of a bumpy dirt road but once you arrive you can kayak or paddleboard to your heart's content.

A dragonfly caught a ride with us down the river. Dragonflies are one insect we're always happy to have around, as they are a great control on the mosquito population. A single dragonfly can eat up to hundreds of mosquitoes per day.

Our heart sings everytime we see this sign, knowing we've entered Heaven on Earth! Island Park claims fame to the longest "Main Street" in the world. The city is only 500 feet wide in most locations, but 33 miles long.

In Idaho, kids under the age of 14 don't have to have a license when accompanied by a licensed adult. Island Park is home to Stoddard Mill Pond, a sweet kids fishing hole, where your little angler is sure to get a nibble and even catch a fish!

Did you know a moose can kick in any direction with its front legs? It's true, that is just one reason it is important to keep your distance when viewing these fantastic animals. Island Park is home to many moose and they are not shy about being seen by humans so lets keep it that way and respect their space by keeping our distance.

Look at Mount Sawtell, he's stealing the show in this gorgeous photo. The peak of this mountain was named after Gilman Sawtell, the man credited as the first commercial Yellowstone Guide. In 1860 he was one of the pioneer ranchers to stake claim to the land that later became the edges of Yellowstone National Park. Do you know what Mr. Sawtell's main business was? Hint, it wasn't being a tour guide.
