Still looking for fun places to take the family and enjoy the remaining warm days? 🌞

Be sure to check out Chaw'se Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park. This 135-acre park will keep you and the family entertained for hours with 1,185 mortar holes, the largest collection of bedrock mortars anywhere in North America. The Miwok used the chaw'se ("grinding rock") for thousands of years to grind acorns for food. The chaw'se also features 363 petroglyphs (carved images), 2,000 to 3,000 years old. You can educate and explore!

You can also explore the surrounding forest on local trails and with a museum and picnic area, you could definitely spend the day at this expansive park! 🌲

Repost from

Long overshadowed by Napa, Capital Region wineries are fighting to be recognized more. Each of our four wine regions has its own unique terroir, a French term describing the soil, climate and sunshine that give wines their distinct character. These winemakers want consumers to consider their wines farm-to-fork — that is, farm-to-glass.🍷

The El Dorado American Viticulture Area () has the distinction of being one of the few appellations in the U.S. defined by elevation. In this wine growing region, grapes are grown from 1,200 to 3,500 feet. The Sierra snowmelt that provides irrigation and the cool alpine downward draft winds that blanket the vineyards all contribute to the makeup of the wine.

Lodi () enjoys a Mediterranean climate with cool, moist winters and dry summers, where Delta breezes coming off the San Francisco Bay at night drop temperatures 40 degrees and contribute to fragrant, fruit-focused wines.

is verdant with fertile farmland. Sugar beets and asparagus were once the main crops in the 1920s until they got too expensive to grow. Now there are lovely pear farms that produce juicy, fragrant fruit that’s turned into award-winning cider and pies. There’s also 10,000 acres of vineyards bursting with ripe, flavorful grapes in this Yolo County region that includes a portion of Sacramento County.

In Amador County, the soil is rich with sparkling quartz, volcanic rock, sandy loam and granite, and according to the Amador Vintners Association (), there’s even some gold sprinkled in among the roots of the grapevines.

Even a small town winery can gain a big fan club! Three years ago Lusso Della Terra moved to Fiddletown in Amador. Their boutique winery boasts high quality, handcrafted, ultra premium wines that are released in limited quantities. They are also one of the only locations in the area offering pétillant naturel (pét nat) wine.

Their popularity has exploded as their small lot production has continued to impress novice and wine connoisseurs alike.

If you haven't had a chance to check out Lusso Della Terra, it's a destination winery to add to your list for sure, Thursday - Monday.🥂

Tomorrow, Sunday August 11th is the last day to enjoy the Historic Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival! 🎶

The fun filled music of Ragtime takes over the Main Street of Sutter Creek, August 9th - 11th. This year celebrates the 26th annual festival celebration. This prestigious festival brings the exuberant sounds of Ragtime, Boogie Woogie, Stride and Early Jazz to the quaint town of Sutter Creek, nestled in the Sierra Foothills, every second weekend in August.

They bring not only Ragtime and stride pianists from around the country this year, but electrifying Pacific Coast Ragtime Orchestra, The Key System Rhythm Ramblers, The free Badge Serenaders and our local Amador Clarinet Quartet playing ragtime.
