Looking for the perfect weekend getaway from the Bay Area? Check out beautiful Amador County! We spent the weekend up there and it was the perfect break from school & work. Here is what to know:
🚗 Travel from the Bay Area: Expect about 3 hours from the Bay Area. You can either come from the Sacramento area across Highway 16 or through Stockton and then up Highway 4.
🏠 Where to stay: We adore @dogponyranch in Clinton - it does book out months in advance but follow on social media for cancellations. This vacation rental offers dog-friendly accommodations on a stunning 60-acre ranch and includes some time helping with farm chores (if you choose!). There are also a lot of historic inns as well as @jacksoncasino for a hotel stay.
What to do:
🌳 A trip to Amador County isn’t complete without learning about its rich history. Start off by visiting Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park to learn about the first inhabitants of the area and then continue by visiting one of the museums or historic sites related to California’s Gold Rush.
🔦 For those seeking to discover the caverns in the area, @black.chasm.cavern offers tours daily.
🍭 The best pastime: find one of the charming mining towns and stroll up and down the main street!
🍔 Where to dine: We dined at Brickhouse Brews (Jackson), @pinegroveroadhouse (Pine Grove), @volcanounion (Volcano) and then prepared our Saturday night meal with groceries from the local market.

Break Even Beermakers moved to a new spot in January of this year. They built out the previous Andre’s building with a state-of-the-art brewery including two open-fermentation tanks.
In what used to be the back parking lot, there is now have a lovely, plant-filled beer garden, complete with sail shades and misters for the hot days and heaters and tenting for the cooler weather as well. With 6 taps inside and 12 taps outside filled with brews driven by fresh and hyper locally sourced ingredients this is a great location to enjoy handcrafted brew Thursday - Sunday.
They are also participating in our Amador Adventure giveaway, valued at over $2,000!! In person entries at participating businesses are open until January 5th.
