Sometimes we have to roll with the punches to make sure a trip meets expectations. This client was so great to work with; we talked through options every step of the way and he was open to shifting his original plan once we ran into some unavailability. We were still able to book an incredible trip that checked all his “must-have” boxes AND stayed within budget so he and his son could have a magical Christmas experience.

More often than not, travel planning requires some flexibility or a lot of time to dedicate to creating the exact trip you are dreaming up. If you are a planner yourself, I am happy to walk with you every step of the way and you can be as involved in the research as you want to be!

I hope this look into the process gives you some inspiration for your next trip, or inspires you to seek out help from a travel advisor like me! Ever heard of the Hotel Hierarchy? I didn’t either until I came into the travel industry. You won’t know it on the surface, but where you book and who you book your hotel with matters. Tier 1: Book with a travel agent who has industry connections. Tier 2: Book directly with the hotel on their website Tier 3: Book using Amex or another credit card Tier 4: Book online (Expedia, Booking.com, etc) Why does any of this matter? If you like getting surprise room upgrades, spa credits, and other special perks, you’re going to want to book with a travel agent, and if you want overall great service, you’re definitely going to want to be in tier 2. Tier 3 and 4 is where things get dicey — no refunds, no perks, getting bumped if the hotel is overbooked. Now with all this said, I LOVE budget travel and I can’t pass up a good deal. If you work with me, I will help you find the best hotel deal for you, even if that’s not booking where I get the most commission. I helped a client explore their options the other day and they ended up booking directly through the hotel’s website because they were getting a cash bonus offer through their credit card when they used it. If they would’ve booked through my normal channels, they wouldn’t have gotten this money back and they would’ve paid way more for their nightly rate at the hotel. Let me help you navigate all of the different rates and possibilities. There are in the hotel world when you get ready to book so that you get the best deal out there for you!

Don’t shoot the messenger but..... Spending 20-30 hours to get a good trip planned (Yes, that’s seriously how long it takes!) is the old way of doing things. The new way? Delegate the planning to a travel agent who can do the legwork for you, make tailored suggestions, and give you access to special perks you would otherwise miss out on.
