Tuesday's Travel Tip

Staying hydrated on long flights is easy. It might seem obvious, but drinking enough water (not alcohol) helps you stay hydrated even in all that high-pressure, dry cabin air.

How much water is enough, you ask? Drinking at least 8 ounces of water for every hour in-flight will help replace lost moisture. The benefits to being hydrated are numerous - improves skin elasticity, prevents swelling, etc.

Unfortunately, I don't follow my own advice here because I refuse to use the onboard toilet 😕. So, this is one of those "do as I say, not as I do" situations.

Tips for Maximizing Deals:
1. Plan Ahead:

◦ The more flexible you are with dates and locations, the better deals you can find
◦ Consider alternative airports for potentially cheaper flights
3. Use Resources:
◦ Join mailing lists of your favorite travel brands to get notified of deals
◦ Use travel agents for help in finding and booking the best deals
4.Timing:
◦ Do not book any trips before November 28th to ensure you get the best deals

Tuesday's Travel Tip

Have you ever used an eSIM?

Have you ever been hit with a huge phone bill at the end of a trip or fumbled with a SIM card only to lose it? If so, an eSIM may be the answer. Yes, your home carrier may have a great international plan, but still get an eSIM for your international trips.

Set it up BEFORE you leave!
You can activate it once you land, but setting it up ahead of time saves you from standing in a foreign airport, hunting for Wi-Fi, or paying inflated prices for local SIM cards.

A great eSIM provider is Airalo. It's an app where you can download an eSIM for over 200 countries and regions in minutes! They even have packages if you are traveling to a few different countries!

Tips For Minors Flying Unaccompanied

Most airlines offer the unaccompanied minor service for kids ages 5-17yrs old. Pricing is very similar overall & runs about $150 per flight (each way).  For example, a round trip ticket would be $300 in fees + the actual flight ticket + tax. Here's what to expect:

🔸️You are given a pass and  allowed to walk your child to the gate.
🔸️You have to sit at the gate and wait with them until they board, and the plane takes off before you can leave.
🔸️Make sure you have all the information of the person picking up your child. They will also be able to get a gate pass and pick up the child at the arrival gate.
🔸️If your child has a phone or tablet, he/she can purchase wifi service and keep in contact with you while inflight.

You can use this service within the U.S. or even out of the country. Flying solo for kids doesn't have to be a scary event.

Tuesday's Travel Tip

Europe is getting rid of its passport stamps 🥲 ( I love collecting those stamps). However, starting Nov. 10th,
all 29 countries of the European Schengen Area will stop stamping passports and switch to a digital entry system using biometric data.

The first time travelers enter the EU, they'll have to register with their face and fingerprints. The next time they visit, they'll only have to scan their face to enter.
Travelers without a biometric passport (most countries have them) will undergo additional security screenings. And if you refuse, they're not letting you in.

This is the first step in getting ready for the new ETIAS travel authorization that is set to launch next year. That program will require travelers to get online authorization prior to traveling to Europe.

The art of the change: A quick tip on how to avoid hotel cancellation fees.

Have you ever had to cancel a hotel reservation at the last minute and realize you’re within the cancellation window, which will cause you to get hit with a fee? Well, the way to avoid this is to just change the booking to a later date and then cancel it.

You are allowed to change a booking to a future date (even within the cancellation window), which avoids the cancellation fee.
Yep, it's that simple.

Tuesday's Travel Tip

If you find yourself sick during travels, try the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast), which can help with a number of stomach-related issues, including:

Dehydration - high water content helps prevent dehydration 🥵

Upset stomach - easily digestible foods coat the stomach and intestines 🍞

Nausea and vomiting - bland taste and smells help reduce nausea 🤮

Replacing nutrients - high potassium content helps replace loss nutrients 🍌

Diarrhea - starchy foods help firm stools 🍚

I use this method anytime I have an upset stomach and it works well.

Tuesday's Travel Tip

Finding Disability-Accessible Restaurants

Those with disabilities can now find establishments that accommodate movement, visual, and hearing needs via the app. As we know, it is challenging to navigate businesses that do not accommodate a person's specific accessibility needs.

With this in mind, Yelp has  added eight additional accessibility features that can be searched. Four of the new filters are mobility-related: "Accessible parking near entrance," "ADA-compliant main entrance," "ADA-compliant restroom," and "No steps or stairs."  Two of the new filters are hearing related: "ASL proficient," which requires at least one staff member who is proficient in the language to be available during business hours, and "Closed captioning on TVs" for establishments that have captions on at least one television. The other two filters are vision related in regards to the menus: "Braille menus available" and "QR code menus available", with the latter allowing guests to enlarge content on their devices or use assistive screen readers.

Making Yelp more accessible makes daily life easier for everyone. The next time you travel (or even lovally) and need a restaurant with any of these accommodations, just Yelp it!
